D/R/U/G/S remixes Lana Del Rey's Americana ode, Blue Jeans. D/R/U/G/S makes the vocalists range a little more acute and speeds up the track to a dancehall pace. The song is no longer a ballad, and is now a melancholy boogie. The sweet resignation in the instrumental is a perfect fit for Lana Del Rey's cool, detached crooning. The track is out April 8th on Beatport.

Lana Del Ray-Blue Jeans (D/R/U/G/S Remix)
D/R/U/G/S remixes Lana Del Rey's Americana ode, Blue Jeans. D/R/U/G/S makes the vocalists range a little more acute and speeds up the track to a dancehall pace. CSLSX - Aeromancer (feat. Mountain Man)
Take some time to take in the video for CSLSX's Aeromancer (feat. Mountain Man). This video is a miracle for Starfox 64 and Pink Floyd fans. It is a gorgeous visual full of flashing triangles, rectangles rotating in the cosmos, endless oceans, and more of the ethereal. The pale blue dot and its relationship to space rarely looked so good. Let the Aeromancer wash over your Neuromancer.
Bad Rabbits - Can't Back Down (The WIG and Panooc Remix)
Listen to a gloriously funky remix by The WIG of Boston based Bad Rabbit's "Come Back Down". The bass is wobbly, the synths wavy, and the voice wailing. Maybe there's not a riot going on, but there's definitely a party. Score one for some Boston solidarity. Oh, oh/oh, oh/you can't..back..down.
Sebastien Tellier-Cochon Ville (The Magician Remix)
The Magician works his tricks on Sebastian Tellier's Cochon Ville. The Magician adds some sharp snares and tight strings to the mix. The vocals are at times mumbling and at times perfectly clear, moving along to their own rhythm. This track is a tantalizing meeting of two electronic titans, and we look forward to breaking our replay button. Release date April 16th.
Goldroom-Angeles (Le Crayon Remix)
The city of a million colors gets a remix from Le Crayon. Le Crayon's remix of Goldroom's Angeles is a track of flashing lights synths and altogether sunset grooves. Woody Allen once joked that he wouldn't want to move to a city (LA) where the only cultural advantage is the ability to make a right turn on a red light. Well, now you can add excellent shining groove tributes like Le Crayon's Angeles to the benefits of the city of Angels. So now L.A has two things good about it.
The Penelopes- Sally in the Galaxy (Edwin Van Cleef remix)
Edwin Van Cleef belatedly releases his remix of The Penelope's Sally in the Galaxy. The remix continues in the rhythmic, jovial spirit of the songs title. Edwin Van Cleef ups the tempo with a nu disco pacing that can only be described as moving at a cosmic speed. Adding wave to the end of anything automatically creates a new genre, so says Edwin Van Cleef. Call this cosmic-wave? And I believe there is a sufficient amount of cowbell in this song that will leave your cowbell needs satiated.

Dwon Lowd - Untitled
Check out the groove in Dwon Lowd's 'Untitled'. It takes a cue from Houston's Chopped & Screwed sound, but the cue is decidedly curious. The vocals to this dance track sound as if someone auto-tuned Barry White's voice, then ramped the bass up to a level that would make Spinal Tap jealous. There is a humane and low touch to the voice that makes its lyrics all the more effecting. I want to touch the sky/I wanna fly so high.
Alexander Holland-City Full of Lights (Gigamesh Remix)
Gigamesh remixes Alexander Holland's City Full of Lights. Gigamesh has stated that he 'leans toward sound palettes that embrace a little cheesiness without sacrificing too much integrity'. His remix of City Full of Lights is a great example. It is a delightful 80's B-movie boogie and disco that sacrifices none of the unrepentant joy, but still keeps a tasteful ambience. Gigamesh goes for gaudy and comes up with pure gold.

SMM Presents: Ana Lola Roman, Warm Ghost, and Black Soft at Cameo Gallery
If you haven't seen our badass bills around Brooklyn, here's a reminder to come to Scotch & Murder Presents: Ana Lola Roman, Warm Ghost, and Black Soft at Cameo Gallery this Tuesday, March 20th. We are inexpressibly proud to showcase three of the most exciting and energetic artists in avant-garde pop/post-electronica circle: Ana Lola Roman, a modern Renaissance Woman (composer, sound designer, choreographer, and more) who will be playing tracks off her cerebral EP 'Keep it Mellow' live for the first time. Warm Ghost is the duo of Paul Duncan and Oliver Chapoy, a duo that takes to heart the very idea of duplicity: On their debut album, Narrows, each pop element paired with an experimental one. Warm Ghost's warm and considered little bursts of sound, their hypnotic collages of rhythms pop and provocative, are something you must see live. The Black Soft is the last of our trio: Characteristic of their velveteen name, The Black Soft craft sexy, electro tracks-tracks which have caught the attention effortlessly cool people like Nicola Formichetti. And, if you thought that was it, we've got one more: To top it off, the event will be DJ'd by Rewards, an instrumental (in more ways than one) part of Chairlift, and an accomplished solo artist in his own right, spending last year solo touring with the likes of Brandon Flowers and Warpaint. Rewards has just announced the release of his upcoming single, Equal Dreams, which will feature Solange Knowles and Blood Orange. The single is set for a July 25th release on DFA records.

Deadmau5 - Sunspot
Deadmau5 is not particularly pleased with the current obsession with 'sick drops', so he's created Sunspot-a minimal, intricate track with no explosions but plenty of fire. Deadmau5 likes to switch it up, but there is are some things that remain. Like, it will be high quality, and it will be imminently danceable. Sunspot is subtle but sublime. Drop what you can and check it out.

D/R/U/G/S - Data Transmission Mix
It's quite funny that 'Onstar' is the first word you hear in D/R/U/G/S' Data Transmission Mix. A guide is just the thing you'll need. Data Transmission Mix takes you from the highest of the house, to the lowest of the electro, and more. Check out the galactic breakdown at the 11:00 mark, or the jungle groove at 27:00 mark. Oh, the places you'll go.
Selebrities - Paraiso
Selebrities' Paraiso is the song that Tommy Vercetti would be bumping if he was cooler. Paraiso is a finely tuned freakout that recalls 80's Miami dance halls and 2012 Berlin art gallery basements. In other words, it is a sharp mix of palm tree friendly disco and icy electronica. The Night Heat 7" is out March 20th on Cascine. Paraiso, Paraiso, Paraiso.
RAC - I Don't Wanna Know (ft. Liz Anios)
RAC and Liz Anjos' I Don't Wanna Know is proof that you can make anything cool, even if it is related to Phil Collins (we kid, we love you Phil!). Liz Anjo's voice enlivens I Don't Wanna Know with force and energy. It is rare that a cover actually sounds more emblematic of an era than the original, but RAC and Liz Anjo's I Don't Wanna Know might make a real case. The pair recorded this song to thank their fans for reaching 15K on their Facebook page. If you're a John Hughes baby or Molly Ringwald was your first teenage love, head over there and show your appreciation.

Violens - Der Micro Arc (Video)
The video for Violens' Der Microarc looks like a gothic, modern take on the famous 'Homesick Subterranean Blues'. Gone is the alley way image of a young Dylan & aging Ginsberg. In 'Der Microarc', instead we get two rockers strumming along in an all black background, shedding reading card after reading card, many with delightfully creepy images. It may be ghoulish, but it's not heartless. 'Der Microarc' is off of Violens' upcoming album, True (5/15, Slumberland).
Dave Edwards & Silver Medallion-American Girl
Spin this free download of Dave Edwards & Silver Medallion' American Girl. This uptempo house track opens with a sound that takes every ones favorite 3 A.M melody, 'Don't Stop Believing', and transforms the melody into something even more infectious and sunny. Just in time for the Ultra Music Festival. And 66 degree days in NY in March. Dave Edwards is a favorite of Scotch and Murder, and with this expert blend of bright American Pop and cooled modern House/Electro you can see why. The 'American Girl' set includes a radio edit of the track, an instrumental mix, and an extended mix.

PHOTOS: SMM Presents Barretso and Krychek @ Santos Party House
A very special thank you for all of you who came out and partied with us Santos this past weekend. Barretso, Krychek, and NevaDat killed it, each brining their own unique flavor to the evening. We had such a marvelous crowd of New York's finest movers and shakers. We wanted to share photos of the event with you (shot by the supremely talented Jessica Granato), which can be found on our facebook gallery. Joon Bug's Anrel Degenhardt was also shooting the event. We've included some of his photos in our gallery, but you can check out all of his photos from the evening here. Finally, you can find some favorite tracks of the night below. Tag Your Face.
Keep Shelly in Athens - Our Own Dream (Video)
Momma always said better late than never ... Sit back and enjoy the official video for Keep Shelly in Athens' Our Own Dream. Like the music of Keep Shelly in Athens, the video is elegantly plaintive and spacious. Written, directed, and edited by Thanasis Tsimpinis, the video from Our Own Dream looks like an outtake of 'Scenes From a Marriage'--if Ingmar Bergman grew up in L.A. We look to this director for the surreal and elegant, and once again Tsimpinis does not disappoint. The union between Keep Shelly in Athens and Tsimpinis is one worth preserving.

Come to our very own Scotch and Murder Presents: Barretso & Krychek @ Santos Party House this Saturday. For a $10 cover, you can get down to the sounds of two eclectic electro artists:
First, the frenelectro (frenetic + electro. Yes, we made that up) mixes of Krychek. Creator of the popular Kronicles of Krychek mixes, Krychek's Nu-Disco and Electro influences are seamlessly interwoven and perfectly pitched for a night at Santo's Party House.
Barresto a brilliant synth-specialist coming all the way from his native Chile is in New York for one night only. Barresto's sounds are often glitch and gorgeous, and caked with synths that would make Devarahi weep tears of joy. We are very honored to showcase these two artists. Doors open at 11:00 P.M, and we hope to see you there.
RSVP for Barresto & Krychek @ Santos Party House

Rufus - This Summer
Rufus releases new single 'This Summer', off the upcoming RUFUS EP (Blue) out April 2nd, 2012. When he sings 'lost in brightness', you can take it two ways. 1) People always make summer plans under the spell of its upcoming shine, and things fall apart. 2) This is exactly what makes summer fun. Make plans for this summer, and see where it takes you.
Canyons - When I See You Again (Duke Dumont Rain on Kilimanjaro Mix)
Duke Dumont Rain on Kilimanjaro (you won't forget the name) releases this spritely mix of Canyons' When I See You Again. At times the easy, moving instrumentation and voice recall the best of Arthur Russell. This is the best of longing, of missing someone. The moments when they are every falling drop, and so never really gone from you after all. We are sure we'll be hearing from Duke Dumont Rain on Kilimanjaro a lot more, even if we weren't destined to remember that name forever.
RxGibbs-Silver (The Whendays Remix)
Lend your ear to Silver, a swirling track from RxGibbs and remixed by The Whendays. If you were to spin the handle on a time machine, this may be the result. Eddies of lasers, circling drums with the force of a jet pack take-off. It's a silver sky less made of cirrus clouds than of the remnants of Gravity's Rainbow. Could there be a more appropriately named group to remix this than The Whendays?
Austra - The Beat and the Pulse (M. Shawn Crahan Remix)
Take a listen to M. Shawn Crahan's [yes thats the Clown from Slipknot]'s remix of Austra's The Beat and The Pulse, the most deluxe track off the deluxe album release of Austra's Feel it Break. Whew! This is a dance track that actually earns the word 'weird'. It at times sounds like a 90's Timbaland joint, at times hints of Slipknot (no surprise, but a welcome expectancy), at times Meredith Monk's electronic basement project . And at all times strange.
Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans (Moonlight Matters Remix)
Lana Del Rey once described her sound as 'Lolita lost in the hood'. Moonlight Matters' remix of Del Rey's 'Blue Jeans' thoroughly dislodges her traditional aesthetic. Moonlight Matters makes her sound like she is lost on the outskirts of 1970's La Brea. Her ballroom voice gets an effective reworking underneath a disco ball. When she sings 'I will love you until the end of time', the sheer amount of sonic assemblages almost make you believe her.

CSLSX & I Break Horses-Violent Sea
CSLSX & I Break Horses release Violent Sea, a oceanic track that foregoes the ambient/wavey route and opts for a harsh, hard drum aesthetic instead. Easy listening by the water this is not. Far more Melville than Message in a Bottle, Violent Sea washes out the vocals in a flood of instrumentation and force. The breaking of a wave cannot explain the whole sea, but maybe CSLSX & I Break Horses effort can come pretty damn close.
Cherub - Doses and Mimosas
Cherub offers up Doses and Mimosas, a track off their recently released album Mom & Dad. 80's funk and art-house indie are cited by Cherub as influences, and it shows. Doses and Mimosas is in your face pop-funk. At times it sounds like the more electro kin of Prince's The Black Album. The stellar new band out of Nashville will be playing at this years Snowball Music Festival out in Vail (thats in Colarado). We'll see you there. Oh yeah, they hate you too.
Future Classic DJs meet...Benoit & Sergio
Check out this series of interviews, playlists, and mixes from Future Classic DJ's. They chat with Benoit (from Benoit & Sergio) ahead of the groups Australian debut at the Future Music Festival. Tracks in the mix include 'Benoit & Sergio-Walk and Talk', 'Benoit & Sergio-Everybody', Friendly Fires-Hurting (Benoit & Sergio remix)', and more. Then realize Benoit & Sergio never learned to DJ. All tracks this series mixed by Future Classic DJs.
Weekend Wolves - NY (Video)
Weekend Wolves release an appropriately ambitious tribute to New York. There are layers and layers in this track. Static, forceful synths, a backtracked guttural guitar(?) distortion, ethereal vocals, and more. And check out the laser tag-like sound effects on this one. NY is not one for thanking, but we are sure it's secretly smiling.
Thieves Like Us - Stay Blue (Official Video)
Thieves Like Us release their track Stay Blue. The track could seem a lovely tribute to adolescent melancholy, both in its lyrics and its instrumental. Over a melodious, wintry beat, the singer laments 'Will I stay blue/Will I stay young'. Being blue rarely sounded so bright. Stay Blue is off their upcoming album Bleed Bleed Bleed, out on Captured Tracks March 20th.

Aeroplane February 2012 Mix
Get a roaring start on March with Aeroplane's end of February 2012 mix. Artists include Videodrome, Cosmonauts, Gucci Vump, and more. Popular favorites on the sound cloud page included Mam's 'Modern Heat' and H.O.S.H's 'What Do You Want Me To Say', but you are sure to find your favorite. Count me in for David Hernandez' remix of Lisa Shaw's Honey. If, as George Herbert suggests, "February makes a bridge and March breaks it", then what a bridge this is.
Trackslisting:

Summer Camp - Losing My Mind (Video)
Summer Camp releases a marvelously uncomfortable video for 'Losing My Mind'. There are no crazy pyrotechnics or psychological breakdowns. Instead, the director chooses to show us a kind of craziness that only exists in the most formal and controlled of things: Photoshoots. The video's aesthetic looks like a 3 minute dedication to an Edward Muybridge-like assemblage of Every Awkward Yearbook Photo Ever. Chin up. No, just a little bit to the left. To the right. No. My right, not yours. Ok, let your arm hang loose. That's too loose. Smile. And remember, above all else: Act natural.
Picture Book-Sunshine (Justin Faust Remix)
Justin Faust remixes Picture Book's Sunshine. Faust classifies this free remix as 'Gangsta Swing', and you could kind of see Dr. Dre dancing to this funk in his sequined suit days (really, Dr. Dre used to dress Glam. Look it up). Vocalist Greta Svabo Bech is a perfect fit for Faust's bright aesthetic. She delivers to full effect, alternating sound-out and smooth, gliding over the instrumental and under it when need be. Now that's gangsta.
Bear in Heaven - The Reflection of You (CFCF remix)
CFCF remixes Bear in Heaven's The Reflection of You. The track takes as its instrumental a gorgeous interloping of vocals that sound like a mix between Siri and Steve Reich. The amount of control in this remix is something to admire. Hi, DM. Hello, intelligent dance music.
Bon Iver - Towers (Official Video)
Bon Iver (AKA Bonny Bear) takes a break from serenading Blue Ivy to release a video for 'Towers'. The video is appropriately elegiac and pastoral. It follows a country man making a journey from preserved Native American land in Washington State into the endless ocean. Director Nabil Elderkin highlights the simultaneous creation and destruction that nature has wrought, and the complicated human response. Where lies the final harbor?

Astrolabe- C ave Disco (Discotexas Edit)
From Discotexas' 'Bucket of Love Vol. 2' comes this unreleased cut by Cave Disco. Astrolabe is a slow, cool burner. It begins with spare instrumentation, then a ever increasing drum beat, rising synth breaks, and, finally, an all out explosion around the 1:40 mark. This is expertly paced disco (complete with (what may be) handclaps at the end!). Give it a spin, and go undercover with Agent Disco.
Work Drugs - License to Drive
It is actually legal to drive with these drugs. Work Drugs releases a track, License to Drive, perfect for afternoon cruising. The track is set with light chords and orange crush drums, and gentle falsetto recalling the teenage days of license = complete freedom. The days when even wall-to-wall traffic was a novelty to be celebrated. Think of it as a reminder that driving doesn't have to be all Scorpion Jackets and murdering goons.
Violens - Unfolding Black Wings
From three-piece Brooklyn band Violens forthcoming album 'True' (May 15th, Slumberland Records) comes Unfolding Black Wings. In case you think the title is epic enough, check out how Violens define the track: "the bands aural approximation of a Goya etching, a nod to 'Daydream Nation' Sonic Youth and Thinking Fellers Union". Add a throbbing head inside the mouth of a Dinosaur (Jr.) and you've got an inkling of this adventurous record: Twitched guitar tunings, surreal lyricism, and infectious melodies. In Unfolding Black Wings and the upcoming 'True', Violens has dropped the 'I' on violin and added the glee in 'E' (that includes quirky).
