Alex Jacob and Spencer Frazen come together to create Fantasy Island. As described to us "a duo that is music to your ears, both literally and figuratively." We were instantly smitten after hearing Avenue, a soothingly soulful track. Audio chicken soup if you will. Avenue will be released on a double a-side limited edition 7' vinyl on February 27th 2012. To make sure you dont miss out you can pre-order your copy directly from Stroll On Records. It hurt so bad.
Just in case you missed Major Lazer's new video for Original Don (featuring The Party Squad). We guess if you can make a video and song pairing this kick ass you can call yourself an Original Don. Shout out to grandmas everywhere. Ruuuuunnnnnnnnnn Theeeeeeee Tracckkkkkkkkkk.
WhoMadeWholeaks us their up coming single,Inside World. Quite a different approach than we are used to hearing from the Copenhagen trifecta. The track carries an electronic air to it, and is certainly lighter than our previous WMW favorite, Every Minuet Alone. A stellar track nonetheless. The Inside World singleis set for release January 23, 2012 and features an acoustic b-side with John Grant. Inside World will be also be included on WhoMadeWho's upcoming album Brighter, due out February 27, 2012 (Kompakt).
We have been waiting patiently for the French power pop group Pony Pony Run Run to release their new single "Just a Song" along with a February 27 release date for their next album. This is a wonderful precursor to what we expect to be a great album. This Duran Duran-esque track maintains this group's reputation as awesome pop writers with a French electronic edge.
The ghostly sounds of Holy Other get remixed by fellow label mate The Haxan Cloak and Andy Scott. With Uwas hands down one of our favorite EPs of the year, so its nice to see it getting some remix love. Know Where and Feel Something are the two remixed tracks, and both will be included on Tri Angle Records 2011 & Beyond, a digital compilation for Bleep. The remixes add a lighter touch to Holy Other's erie sounds, but retain plenty of darkness. Plenty of darkness.
It looks like the master of mid-fi has had some extra time to mix while touring the EU. As the rest of us are bumping out to those Pumped Up Kicks, Com Truise is marching to a different tune (as usual). Mr. Truise takes on Foster The People'sHelena Beat adding his signature synth-wave style to the track. Scoop it up.
Oliver keeps it going with another freshly minted Nu-disco anthem, Footsteps. The track starts off with a perfectly slow build to get your attention. Then those quick breathtaking vocals jump in. This is the part where you cant help but start dancing. The loop goes on and on.... I Hear Footsteps.
Scotch & MurderMusic collaborate once again with Leger De Main to bring you a new mix tape. This one, called The Other Side, presents remarkably new sounds, different from what we are used to. Before KRYCHEK gave you 80's electro, synth pop. Now Leger brings deep, tech-house, and techno tracks directly from the European underground scene, all together in this one hour electronic synapse.

Twin Sister hits us off with this dandy of a remix of Bad Streetby Lindstrom & Prins Thomas. An interesting pairing of lush Long Island with Norwegian electronica. The result? A more than bubbly genre we are calling champagne disco. Definitely something we can get into. I want it bad.

Keep Shelly In Athens gets demonic with their latest release Struggle With Yourself. A track as deep and dark as the name it bears. The song is off the Greek based duo's latest EP Campus Martius. Certainly some of the darkest dream-pop we've heard from KSiA, and some of the best. Prefix describes the track as "early '90s cut that sounds like all the best part of Garbage, Nine Inch Nails, and Depeche Mode all rolled into one." We hate to quote, but thats about as on point a description as we've heard in a minuet.
We hadn't heard much from LA favorites The New Division since they released their debut full length album Shadowsa while back. Thank goodness that's over. The quartet gets back to business with They Lies To Me, a little ballad about the pains of finding love. The New Division takes a step away from electronica on the track and toward a far more raw sound. Dont worry guys, they lies to us as well.
Download The New Division's They Lies To Me for free directly off the player below.
We Have Band jumps back into the mix with the release of this fine little EP, Where Are Your People?. The EP features the title track along with a pair of covers including The Horrors' Still Lifeand Washed Out's Within and Without. Of course all of this is in anticipation of the trio's sophomore album, Ternion, due out this upcoming January 29th 2012. Cant wait. So yeh, Where Are Your People?
Moullinex is the latest artist to get his hands on Gigamesh's When You're Dancing. This re-work may be the best one yet, with a nice little surprise build in there for to check out. Definitely a bit harder (just a little bit) than what we are used to hearing from the Discotexas front man, but a change of pace is always welcomed. Dont worry the track is still keeps with its funky disco core. Feel your heartbeat. Feel it increase.
Thanks to our dear friends over at Magnum PR, we had the great pleasure of watching Ki: Theory, a.k.a Joel Burleson, perform this past weekend at Bowery Ballroom. You may already be familiar with Ki: Theory from his stellar remix of The Son of Flynnoff Daft Punk'sTron: Reconfigured album or perhaps from his work with UNKLEandQueens of the Stone Age. However, there is much more to the Richmond, VA native's sound than his remix work. Through an original and inventive cut-n-paste approach to music, Ki: Theory creates an organic refreshing new brand of electronica. That brand covers a wide range of sounds from the perfectly lo-fito the heart bumping stomp out anthem, all with just the right touch of an experimental vibe. (Compare videos below: "I Wanna Run" vs. "KITTY HAWK" played to a live performance).
Then there is the live performance aspect of Ki: Theory. An experience far from the too many electronic artists who hide behind their equipment and demand we enjoy the sounds produced. Ki: Theory is driven to please his crowd by creating a unique moment, never stopping once his feet touch the stage. As a member of the audience, you cant help but feel as if Ki is playing from within the crowd and always from the heart. The words dynamic, stimulating, and intimate came to mind as we watched a hungry up and comer put it all on the line in front of a sold out ballroom. To get a taste, check out our photo coverage of Ki: Theory live at Bowery Ballroom.
To top it off, all of Ki: Theory's original music, including his latest single I Wanna Run (video below), can be downloaded for free directly through the Ki: Theory website. Of course this includes his last official EP Arms For Legs, and his debut album Brittle Branches. Also take a minuet to check out Ki's TRON mixtape, which can be streamed and downloaded directly from Ki: Theory's Soundcloud page.
And now a track so catchy that it sticks to your bones. Cut Copy's label Cutters Records presents Knightlife's fourth EP release on the imprint, I Want You. The title track is super catchy and makes for a perfect bop down the street while musing about that one person you want. I Want You.
Absolute doll face Fallulah collaborates with renowned Parisian DJ Monsieur Adi for this delectable remix of her latest single, Out Of It. Quite the perfect pairing of a picturesque soft vocals and dance driven beat with some perfect builds and drops. Mr. Adi elevates the track, mixing the perfect amount of dark and dance. This isnt the first time Ms. Fallulah impressed us on a electronic track. The last time we heard from the Copenhagen native she was re-working I Lay My Head with Scotch and Murder favorite Shook. Somebodys gotta tell me that I'm gonna be all right.
After listening to Replic's Errors Mixtape, we went ahead and did some more research on some of the artists included in the track list. One man by the name of Chris Malinchak stood out in spades. After listening to his Vilette EP, it was crystal clear we had to promote his music on Scotch and Murder. Here is what his label French Express had to say about their artist:
chris tends to stay out of the limelight, away from the scenes, niches, and cliques. this is no guile or gimmick, just complete, unadulterated style & sincerity. we reeled him in out from the abyss like the lochness, as he made his debut release with us back in feb 2011 (renaissance EP). if you can’t tell by now, chris is a musical witch doctor, able to concoct melodic potions on a whim.
the “vilette EP” is an orchard of finessed sounds, each track different from the next. supported by such greats like the magician, there’s no need to covet any longer, as this can be yours for 3 easy payments of $0.99. stay tuned for a follow up this december, featuring body language vocalist angelica bess…
Here is Malinchak's most recent video for No Secrets featuring Damon C. Scott.
The Naked and Famous grab our ears with this stunningly perfect remix of White Sea's Mountaineer. The remix reminds of our N&F favorite The Sun, and makes us wonder weather these Kiwis will follow the more poppy path that got them this far or stick with these darker tones we love so much. You can download The Naked and Famous remix of White Sea's Mountaineer right off the player.
As for White Sea, a.k.a Morgan Kirby, she's pretty kick ass herself. The LA based singer, songwriter, and overall epic talent captures a post-rock, new wave sound with a splash of a modern day Washed Out-esque vibe. It also doesn't hurt that Ms. Kirbycan sing the hell out of a track. Just ask M83's Anthony Gonzalez who hand picked her off MySpace to sing (and do much more) on his last album, Saturdays = Youth. Accordingly, we left you a copy of the original version of Mountaineer with hopes that you too will fall in love with White Sea(that is if you haven't already).
We finally got our hands on Trentemøller's latest work, Reworked/Remixed, a EP that proveds just that. That of course being a series of stellar remixes and reworks by and of Trentemøller's work. The double discReworked/Remixed features a total of 26 tracks and includes work by Depeche Mode, I Blame Coco, UNKLE, and many more. Pick up your copy of Trentemøller's Reworked/Remixed directly from iTunes or Amazon. Consider the track below a little tease to wet your appetite. Its finely crafted remix of Trentemøller's Tide by Modeselektor, and claims to be the Berlin based duo's last remix. We don't buy it.
Those Bloody Beetroots are at it again. This time the Italian outfit remixes Congorock's Ivory. Starting off with some lovely keys that lead to a sweet (but short) build, we next find ourselves in a downward spiral of grinding synthetics and kicked up bass. Only to later land upon that soft bed of piano keys once again. What else would you expect from a track produced, arranged, composed and mixed by Sir Bob Cornelius Rifoa.k.a The Bloody Beetroots. We Hold The Future.
If you happened to be in London next to the Millbank Tower around 9pm on Monday November 28th, you more than likely witnessed a magnificent display of real time marketing using 4d technology projection of the new Nokia Lumia 800 accompanied by the music of Deadmau5. This event was a perfect display of just where we are as a civilization and communicates what we currently value: ELECTRONIC MUSIC & MOBILE SMART PHONES!
We finally bring you our coverage of The Cure's Reflections Tour from this past Sunday's show (special thanks to the Queen of e.vilwho blessed us with front row seats). Needless to say this was a performance of epic proportions. Robert Smith and his band of talents put on intimate four hour show to a sold out Beacon Theatre, all the while never forcing fan favorites, but instead playing the tracks they wanted us to hear.
The concert included a Robert Smith tear streaming rendition of Seventeen Seconds to close out the Seventeen Seconds set. However, Mr. Smith was not the only one crying, just about every other time we took our eyes off the band we noticed Cure die-hards pouring their eyes out, and perhaps their hearts as well. There were rumors swirling that this would be The Cure's last live show, however, Rob dismissed those, closing the concert with a very chippy "see you next year" (you can catch that at the end of the Boys Dont Cry video).Yes we will Rob, yes we will.
Below you will find our video coverage of the event, including videos for A Forest, Killing An Arab, Lets Go To Bed, and a concert closing Boys Dont Cry.
After the show we caught up with Queen of e.vilto show some love. At that same time The Cure's kick ass roadies were giving away some stage items to die-hards. Guess what Mrs. e.vil came down with? Robert Smith's stage beer, lipstick stained and all. Check out the video below to see how that cup of lager got to Kill Hannahfront-man Mat Devineand what he decided to do with it.
We come across more and more seriously great mixtapes as we continue our quest to bring you great music. Replicis our most recent discovery and this Italian packs them in his latest Errors Mixtape, featuring Tronik Youth, Gigamesh,Tesla Boy and Teeel. A truly awesome track list!
Our friends over at Comorbid Records introduced us to a new artist, Nattsvart, and we would like to take a minuet to introduce you to him. The Sweden based Nattsvart artists delivers some very, dark, mysterious, gothic-esque tracks with an electro twinge to it. The man behind the name describes his genre of music as Dark Doomy IDM. We'll take it. We left you our favorite track, Döda, but take a minuet to check out Nattsvart soundcloud page for more. Oh, and Nattsvart translates to as black as night. Makes perfect sense to us.
Physical Acts, the third single from Work Drugsdebut album Aurora Lies, gets a music video. The Philly based talents revealed that the track was written in response to the state Philadelphia was in after they returned from a recording session in Argentina. In particular the band mentions the Occupy Movement, Philadelphia sports, and flash mobs. The guys of Work Drugs are so bad ass that they are giving away the track for free on the Work Drugs soundcloud page. If you want to pick up the entire Aurora Lies album jump over to the Work Drugs bandcamp page (only 8 ducketts). It's a Heart Attack of Love.
In an effort to show you how bad we feel when we miss a day of posting we will be doing some late night blogging, culminating with our coverage of the The Cure live at Beacon Theatre (videos included).
We kick off our late night session with the Real Human Being Mix, an exceptionally brilliant mixtape by Electric Youth. Fresh off releasing their Right Back to You EP the Canadian childhood loves put together this smashing mix featuring tracks and remixes by M83, The Magician, Plastic Plates, Luke Million, Miami Horror, Washed Out, Fred Flake, and the list could keep on going. Of course the mix features the excellent DVAS remix of Electric Youth's Right Back To You, which you can pick up from iTunes. We also love the fact that the mix is broken down into an "A Side," "B Side," and a very necessary "End Credits."You can download Electric Youth's entire Real Human Being Mixdirectly off the player. Keep Shelly in Athens jumps back to the 80s with their re-work of ABADABAD's California Birds. The remix is part of Keep Shelly's new EP, Our Own Dream, and judging by the album cover perhaps the Greek duo has a remix EP in the works. Earlier this week the collaboration was posted as a video, now you can grab the track for free (in player). Totally, completely, dreamy. Listen for the guitar riff.
The fine people over at Paper Bag Recordsare giving a way a stellar Remix EP,Versus, by Young Galaxy. The EP is actually more of an inverse remix album in the sense that it features remixes by Young Galaxy, as opposed to remixes of them. Versussome spot on re-works of gifted musicians including, Junior Boys, Freedom or Death, Austra, and Handsome Furs. We left you Young Galaxy's take on CFCF's snake charmer as a little sample. Definitely something you want to check out.
November has been a busy month for the French-California nu-Disco face of DISCOTEXAS. First, Zimmer released his debut EP on the label, Horizontal Disco. Next, the French-Californian dropped the dopeness that is his Gravity November Mixtape. Coincidentally, Its also been a busy month here at the Scotch and Murder offices, as we've been working behind the scenes to revamp the site.
After checking back in with Zimmer we noticed that we unfortunately missed out on bringing you some of our favorite artists new music. In an effort to remedy the situation we're doing a little double post to show our support for one of our truly favorite artist. So without further ado we present you with Zimmer's debut EP Horizontal Disco, which you can purchase directly from beatport, and the stellar Gravity | November Mixtape, available for free download right in the player.
Just in case you missed the Totally Extinct Dinosaurs' video for Dream On. The video is quite a bit shorter than the actual track (1:30 vs 4:00). Grab the free download of an incredibly kick ass track by clicking on the link below. Hopefully this makes the cut on the full length promised by T-E-E-D (expected release early 2012). Dream on now.
