One of our favorite recently released tracks has just been remixed by Craft Spells. Money by The Drums is a perfect Cali-punk tune describing the misfortunes of having no money. Replacing all instrumentals in the the original track with a consistent cello like rhythm section and violin reverb transforms the single into a smooth piece of 80s synth work.
With great pleasure we present the Intro track off the upcoming and highly anticipated M83 album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. After wowing us all with Midnight City, we find ourselves again in awe of the second release off the album. Even if it is only an intro. The track displays M83's awesome ability to set the tone, and features some phenomenal robust vocals by Zola Jesus. If we were shooting a movie set in the 80s that involved high school heart-beark, abnormally large jocks, time travel, random drug use, and cool Corevetts, this song would probably open and close the reels.
Flight Facilitiesgets super funky in their latest release, Feeling. The track is a little less synthish and a more disco house goodness than we are used to hearing from the Sydney based duo. Very enjoyable nonetheless. After not hearing from the double F in a minuet we get blessed with a pair of stellar tracks and fresh MixTape in the past month. We could get used to this. Don't you know I'm feeling?
Teeel seems to have been busy, releasing a second track in as many weeks. This time the 80s synth maestro remixes Work Drugs' Third Wave with an abundance of success. Teeel kicks up the track up a notch with some deep synthetics, well timed chops, and by re-working the vocals on the track. This might be one of our favorite intro to a track from this summer. Grab it while its free, download in the player.
With a weekend that seems to have us stuck indoors, we figured we'd slap together a little playlist for you all to listen to. Plus we havent done mixtape in a minuet so why the hell not. Be safe out there. Embrace Hurricane Irene with Earthquake Stevie.
Pollyn pays tribute to Portishead, recreating the single Dummy with their own Mysteron. You can find this rendition of the early 90's classic accompanying their latest single How Small We Are as a B side. The LA based trio's reputation of being eccentric and genre erratic has been established, hence their cover of Portishead comes at no surprise. We anticipate the release of Living in Patterns on October 4th to be a good one. Definitely check them out.
After wowing us with Lofticries and Ungirthed, Purity Ring does it again with belispeak. The track is a bit faster than their previous two wonders, however the focus remains on lead singer Megan James' perfectly crisp vocals. Those beautiful vocals might be coming to a city near you soon as Purity Ring joins Neon Indian and Com Truise on tour. How can you not love that voice. belispeak will be on Purity Ring's upcoming 7" with Braids due out October 10th on Fat Possum.
Com Truise sends out some free download love before he hits the road. With Datebar Mr. Truise continues to show us his unique ability to create a sound that is his own. That glitched out 80s sound never felt so good. Com leaves this Sunday (hurricane permitting) to join Active Child (with Chad Valley). Next he will be joining Neon Indian (with Purity Ring), and after that the Brooklyn synth wizard heads to the EU for all of November. Check out the Com Truise' Shows Pagefor more info. Stream Datebar below and download it for free here.
Smash together 70's funk, 80's new wave, and Bowie vocals you get Pink Skull. A refreshing new band that bends the rules, retreating from the electronic hullabaloo, yet grasping on to a Talking Heads like musical presentation. The Philadelphians will be releasing their new album Psychic Welfare on September 27th on RVNG Intl. Check out some of our favorite tracks and the album teaser below.
Pink Skull - Janie Aubergine
Pink Skull - Either the Luminescent Wallpaper goes, or I do
St. Vincent re-invents the concept of kidnapping mom in the video for Cruel. The video, directed by Terri Timely, captures the title quite well. We're not sure you could be much crueler. The track is off St. Vincent's upcoming Strange Mercyalbum due out September 13th on 4AD. You can check out front women Annie Clark's behind the scenes action over at Huffington Post.
Weekend Wolves is a one man show from Hamburg, Germany, working to bring you some of the darkest synth sound out. Karma is a down right grimy track that has now been paired with a thoroughly eire video. After browsing through Mr. Wolves collection of work on Soundcloud, it seems he has a penchant for the dark stuff. How our paths just now crossed is beyond us. A simply sinister sound.
axi0n brings you some fine Chicago minimal house with his alcoholic re-work of Seeksoul's After Three Martinis. Both artists are fellow fans of late 80s early 90s house music, which seems to be back in the music mix. A very chilled out track that we should probably drinking a martini (or three) to. Keep an eye out for future collaborations of the two Chi-town natives under the name Numberstation. If they continue to sound this good these two are sure to blow up. Find the remix and original below, both with free downloads in the player. Dig this stuff.
Keep Shelly in Athens belts out another deep dark track with Our Own Dream. The Greek Duo us set to take on their first ever North American tour, which culminates at none other than New York's Bowery Ball Room. Our Own Dream is the title track off the bands upcoming 12'' EP due out this fall (Forest Family). Deeeeeeep track. Jump in.

The Magician checks in with his Fourteenth Magic Tape. The Magic man continues to show his effortless ability to capture summer in audio, again brining us perfectly groovy and pumped up tracks to jam out to. As usual, he leaves us with no track list. Can you blame him, a magician never reveals his tricks. Free download in the player. This may be the best magic tape yet.
Last week we posted the fantastically naughty video for The Naked and Famous' The Sun. Now those talented Kiwi's send along a deeper and dark remix of the song by fellow New Zealanders' The Drunken Apaches. Yes, it is possible for that song to get deeper and darker. Grab it while its free, we warned you.
The Acid Invaders drop in with a free Summer Party Remix of their upcoming single Change. The AA single is set for release on August 31st on Introduce, and features a modern up-beat progressive twist to the acidic sounds of the late 80s and early 90s. A sound that we've grown accustomed to hearing from the Brussels trio. You can check out the video for the original version of Change below as well. Acidic indeed.
Deadmau5unveils a new track that asks the eternal question, Where Are My Keys. In all seriousness the track has nothing to do with your keys (or Deadmau5' for that matter). Instead it is another head thumping banger from the king of all things electronic. Its a live recording from Space Ibiza, so its still a bit raw, but we can imagine how thoroughly hardcore this track will be once the appropriate production is put in. The man is a menace to your ears. Let him menace.
Alright so after embracing the Earthquake, we are happy to share our photo coverage of YOU at IDentity Festival Jones Beach. We got some prime shots of you guys, such a lovely bunch you all were. We posted some choice selection below, but check out our Facebook page or the links below for all the complete set. Dude your on the internet. Tag it up.
We finally bring you our artist photo coverage IDentity Festival at Jones Beachfrom this past weekend. Overall, an excellent festival with each performance exceeding our expectations. Between the stellar line up and amazing crowd, this was one for books. Unfortunately our photos were cut short by the rain, however, that didn't stop you guys from partying it up throughout the show.
Each artist took our breath away, but we'll go out and say thatNerospinning through the rain was our pick for top performance with Chuckie and Manufactured Superstarspicking up honorable mentions. From the looks of the show, you guys were having just as much fun as we did, if not more. To all of you getting ready for IDentity to hit your town, your in for quite the treat, get those tickets now. A very special thanks to Skullcandy and MSPOR for putting on one of our favorite festivals yet.
The fan photos we promised you all will be up first thing in the morning. You guys were a great crowd to shoot, leading us too take a ton of photos. We'll be working through the night to bring them to you. Thanks for being beautiful.
Lifelike is one of those guys that when he decides to do a remix its just not allowed to be mediocre. Never. The producer has established himself as one of France's dance scene gems. Officially, after releasing Discopolis in 2005. You may remember the MTV censored video directed by Seb Janiak, same director of Daft Punk's Burnin, featuring the sexy Lily Tenue strutting her stuff. Awesome! Anyways, no shock here the Animalia remix is no exception. Keep em' coming LIFELIKE!
We've been following Owl Vision from the start, and will continue following the Swede as he continues to release heavy hitters. A big thanks to Comorbid Records for updating us on all activity in Scandinavia. The following is the teaser trailer for Moloch, 1 of 2 single tracks being released on September 27. The single drops before the video so be aware!
On a day with a lot work behind the scenes and a broken computer, we didnt get much of a chance to post for you. To make up for it we present Zimmer's final summer Mixtape. The man who has provided us with perfectly summer mixes all season long brings his A game in Les Grandes Vacanes. Zimmer also passes along word that his debut EP is set for release this October (Discotexas).
We also wanted to pass along some high quality events going on this weekend to our fellow New Yorkers. Saturday's MoMA Ps1features a pretty perfect line up of Ford and Lopatin, Blood Orange, Grimes, and Pictureplane. Pretty nuts. For you ragers our there, Identity Festival comes to Jones beach this sunday with acts by Holy Ghost!, Nero, The Crystal Method, and many many more. Get in. Go nuts.

Currently Born Gold, formerly GOBBLE GOBBLE, releases their first song under the new name, . Alabaster Bodyworlds is part of the Canadian bands upcoming debut LP, Bodysongs, due out September 20th. The track features crisp vocals breaking through a flurry of different sounds. As for the the evolution from GOBBLE to Born Gold, we'll let vocalist Cecil Frena explain: "We have been slowly coaxing this caterpillar into a butterfly with our fists. Check it out, girl - a new face to fit both our past to date and the future-sex we are slowly growing into. Stand before a mirror, hold your palm over your right eye, and repeat Born Gold six times.” Perfect.
So Flight Facilities is pretty awesome at making mixtapes, addition to belting out classics. The duo comes together to put together a nice little Summer mixtape, 37,000 ft., that should get you moving this weekend. A very special thank you to Stereo Gum for premiering a stellar new track from Future Islands. Balance, features that post-rock sound we grew up on, but adds a bit of a modern grit to it. There is definitely a hint of The Cure in there. Balance, is part of the Baltimore based band's upcoming On the Wateralbum, due out this October (Thrill Jockey). Grab the track below to chew on till then. You change your life. It just takes time.
First of all, anything with steel drums involved automatically rocks. Hence, Them Jeans' remix of Björk's Virus automatically became a favorite as soon as we hit play. A nice little track to warm things up this weekend as we wind down this hot mess of a summer. Mr. Jeans seem to follow Bjork's lead on the track, starting off very melodic and mellow, only to bring the house down towards the end. In the artists' words: a dark and bouncy bootleg. Agreed. Free download in the player. Steel Drums 4 Life.
Moby releases an incredibly immaculately directed video for Lie Down, the latest single off his recent Destroyed album. The video features some perfectly framed shots of unique landscapes. Further, directors from The Institute For Eyes venture to the next frontier, capturing the beauty and awe that is space. Picturesque to say the least.
A little Bon Iver to mix things up here on Scotch and Murder. After traveling through the grit of 70s New York with a murderous mad man, we take you on an Icelandic nature walk with the purest of little boys. Only at Scotch and Murder do you get such fanatically fantastic juxtaposition. But seriously, Bon Iver rocks (without even rocking).
You already know how much we love Com Truise and fan videos, so you can imagine how psyched we were to find a fan video for one of our favorite Mr. Truise tracks, Broken Date. Take a trip to the 70s in New York through the eyes of a young De Niro and the ears of the Brooklyn synth king, Com Turise.
Sigur Ros is one of those bands that comes out once in a blue moon, deeming the introduction of a new sound still possible. The band caught the worlds attention with the release of ( ) in 2002, adding to their die hard Icelandic and European following. Since then, the Reykjavík based group have kept the momentum, releasing Takk (2005), Heima and Hvarf/Heim (2007), and Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (2008). Each album filled with Jonsi Birgisson's soft high vocals and bow guitar ringing throughout the record.
Thankfully, after a 3 year hiatus, the minimalist group returns with a live film and double live album, Inni. Vincent Morisset, the director of Arcade Fire's Miroir Noir, contributes his artistic direction to Inni, filming and re-filming live performances, throwing in obscure scenes to deliver the alien-like sensation you get from their shows. The film premiers September 3 at the Venice Film Festival.
Joel Ford (from Ford & Lopatin, formerly Games) releases a new track under his Airbird alias. City vs. Mountains is the title track off Mr. Ford's upcoming 12"due out this September on Mexican Summer / Software. The song keeps with 80s feel we are used to hearing from Joel's other projects, but with a softer synth feel and less of a grinding beat. Very enjoyable indeed.
When three artists from notably different genres collaborate it always catches our eye. Hence, when we saw Matt & Kim, Soulja Boy, and Andrew W.K. mashed into one artist line, we were intrigued. A bit skeptical at first, however, we ultimately decided that the track works (we think). Give it a spin and let us know what you think. I'm a goner.
Man, there is something creepy and exciting about Holy Other. Relaxation battling irritation, metaphorically speaking that is. Before we get to hear WallsCoracleLP (Kompakt), Holy Other wets our appetite with a remix of the LP's single Sunporch, resulting in a very haunting edit of the track.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers released the video for the first single, The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie, off their highly anticipated album I'm With You. The video has RHCP jamming out on the roof of an Venice Beach rooftop as a crowd of fans gathers, and Anthony Keidis with a mustache. Surely the video will remind of U2's Where the Streets Have No Name, that was our first thought. I'm With You (with its Damien Hirst designed album cover) is set for release on August 30th.
The Naked and Famousunveiled a strikingly NSFW video for their latest single The Sun. The video certainly contains plenty of nudity. The video is so controversial it has been dubbed too hot for YouTube. However, it is no way cheap or raunchy. Rather, there is a certain air of romance, art, and lust involved that makes it hard for us to turn away. Surely unsuitable, yet totally worth it.
As for the The Sun, it is a fantastically down-tempo dream of a track that will have your ears convinced Radiohead is playing. We've got to hand it to the Auckland, New Zealand quintet every since seeing them live at New York Summer Stage they continue to impress and have sent us a whole new vibe. Much love, much respect.
What better way to end the day than with the soothing and stirring sounds of Balam Acab. Motion is part of Mr. Acab's debut full-length album WANDER / WONDER, set for release August 29th (Tri Angle). Very Dopeness.
Tuneyards leaked the booty-shaking remix of Gangsta by none other than Beastie Boys member Ad-Rock. The remix is set to appear on a 12" single, out on September 27th (4AD). You can stream and download (for free) the remix below. Check it out.
