What better way to end the day than with the soothing and stirring sounds of Balam Acab. Motion is part of Mr. Acab's debut full-length album WANDER / WONDER, set for release August 29th (Tri Angle). Very Dopeness.
Tuneyards leaked the booty-shaking remix of Gangsta by none other than Beastie Boys member Ad-Rock. The remix is set to appear on a 12" single, out on September 27th (4AD). You can stream and download (for free) the remix below. Check it out.
Tyson returns with with a free download of his track Fight. The song carries the same 80s feels as his previous tracks, except this one could probably play in any Rocky or Karate Kidmontage. Think Rick Jameswith a splash of Knight Rider. In Tyson's own words: a track that could have come straight out of early 80’s Disco New York. That is the truth. Remember, Fight for Your Right.
Thankfully, the apple does not fall far from the tree. In this case we are referring to the new track Professional Griefers by the electro God Deadmau5. Joel Zimmerman crafted the distinct sound that everyone now knows and loves. The two worlds of smooth ambient and overpowering death beats collide resulting in jaw dropping automatic dance sensation. Professional Griefers delivers a continuous robust and gritty beat, excluding any real melody for one purpose. Death beat.
Guess who just joined the Electric Zoo 2011 lineup. The Finnish duo Super8 & Tab will be joining 100+ electronic artists this year on Randall's Island New York headlined by Tiesto, David Guetta, and Armin van Buuren. Trance is a rarity on the Scotch and Murder playlist, however, these Scandinavian neighbors are redefining the genre. If you are in the same vicinity and have been following the SMM track record, you'll trust the recommendation to absolutely check these guys out. They now broadcast their SuperTab Radio show on 79 FM stations worldwide and have remixed countless singles. Check out their 8th session below

A while back we sharedScandinavian temptress Monica Birkenes' (aka Mr. Little Jeans) cover of Arcade FiresThe Suburbs. We told you how much we loved the dark eerie take on the classic, and how splendidly Ms. Birkenes' vocals fit the track's vibe. Well, Monica sang the hell out of that song, and now has an alarmingly fantastic video to show for it. This one may be our favorite yet.
The video reveals a dark tale with suburbia as its back drop. We see a girl from with a past scarred by lost loved ones. She attempts to erase her haunted memories through sex, drugs, and brimstone, only to realize that there is no escape. We promise chills down your spine.
A very special thanks to High5Collecctive who put the video together. Talk about telling a story.Very rarely do we see a video capture the true grit and soul of a song (particularly in today's music world) They are extremely talented and bright people. Please take the time to check out their work, you wont regret it.
Teeel drops in with fresh new track, MOOGWAI. The track starts with a picturesque lead and then builds into a peak of some sweet deep grinding synth. Part of the ISO50 compilation Under The Mountain, which you can download for free. MOOGWAI certainly carries the sordid 80s sound we've come to expect from the Mr. Teeel. As for the name of the track we'll defer to the artist: Through scientific R&D, I was able to fuse a MOOG synthesizer with a Mogwai from the movie “Gremlins” to make a super hybrid known as a MOOGWAI. Bravo sir, bravo.
Download Teeel - MOOGWAI for free directly in the player.
The latest installment of the Radiohead TKOL remix series is out, and we are instantly in love. Definitely a bit tripper than the past remix releases, with a heavy dose of minimalist sounds. The tracks will become available for digital purchase on August 15th, but for now you can stream below.
Feistfinally unveils the first single of the new album Metals. How Come You Never Go There is quite the ballad, with obviously amazing vocals. Metals is set for release on October 4th. She truly is breathtaking.
A welcomed injection of rock from fellow Brooklyn local Lou Teti, aka Tigers on a Leash. The group lays down some mean riffs on I Know The Way (they sure sound like they do). The single off the Tigers last album will be part of an all Remix EP, which you can stream below. Also, dont forget to snag a free download of the Cassian Dub Version. Huge fans of the original, we will be rocking to this one for a hot minuet, so should you. No pressure, just saying its a good song thats all.
Guido Miniskyre-asks the eternal question Who Do You Love in his recent edit of the Intruders' 70s classic. Mr. Minisky maintains the same feel of the track, but adds a layer of some deep synth and keys, while amplifying the already amazing vocals. Perfect track for the summer romance you've bee questioning over the past couple of months. So the question remains, who do you love?
The Remix Artist Collective, better known as RAC, continues to kill it. Their latest re-work of Alex Winston's Velvet Elvis (pretty awesome name by the way) is a prime example of their talents. RAC displays a unique ability to emphasize an artists skill set by picking the perfect sounds to match such skills. Here, the trio pairs Ms. Winston's crispy clean vocals with a softer synth and melodic beat. On top of all that god given talent they are pretty nice guys, and are giving the track away for free (in player). Happy ears all around. Grab it.
Poolside jumps back on our chart , however, its Goldroom that gets the credit for their remix to Do You Believe. The track has a bit of a pop-progressive sound to it, if that makes any sense. Probably the perfect song to start the morning with. Oh yeh, and grab the track for free right off the player. Can you believe that we have what it takes.
Time to kick things up a notch. The Crookers and Savage Skulls collaboration that resulted in Bust Em Up has just got better. How you ask? With a splash of a little something called Fatboy Slim. The track was pretty phenomenal to begin with, but anything (anything, even your mom's meatloaf) will get better when a little Fatboy is introduced. Check out the track below, then go make it one to remember.
Is that The Cure? No, but it is FM Attack remixing Flamingo Drive's Strange World. With both bands seemingly obsessed with the 80s one could imagine how great this tag team would be before even listening to it. We gladly report that their is no disappointment. Let us not forget to mention how perfectly Kristine's vocals matches the sound and vibe track. The single is set for exclusive release August 15 on Juno and August 22nd worldwide on Mullet Records. Get your ears wet with full stream of the blissfully 80s remix and the official video for the original below.
SymbolOnedigs through the archives and comes out with one hell of an edit to 1989 Spanish Pop group Loco Mía's Locomia. A Summer tropical feel with deep thumping bass to boot. Put this one just as the luau is taking off, then enhance and excel through the rest of the evening. LOCO MIA 4 LIFE.
:papercutzpasses along word of an upcoming special edition of Heart Shaped Rock's Heart Shaped EP, set for release this October on Human Ear. :papercutz will be featured on the special edition release, applying their talents to the title track. We love the deep dark sound they have applied to the single. A perfectly built song with a closing that will leave you wanting more. Dont fret, you can press play again.
The Magician passes along his Caribbean Disco Remix of Wolf Gang's Stay and Defend. Laced with steel drums the edit has the Magician's fingers all over it. The track is set for release on September 19th, so we all have to blast it at our beach parties directly from SoundCloud till then. Super Summer.
Poolside did a little cover of Neil Young's Harvest Moon, and its pretty amazing stuff. Poolside takes a new approach to the track, utilizing a soft set of vocals (Nicole Morier) and some well timed finger snaps (Dan "Cosmic kids" Terndrup). The cover was released in an effort to quell fans hunger for the new Poolside album, however we are still hungry. Poolside's cover of Harvest Moon is available for free limited download (in player), so grab it while you can.
Let us start off by saying we know we are late we are the the party. However, Gramatik's free album, Beatz & Pieces Vol. 1, is simply too good to not share. Mr. Gramatik exhibits pure talent on the release. Through the 17 tracks Gramatik displays his great range, creating tracks with a modern big bass jazzy feel to pop-hip-hop synthish sounding tracks. We left you some tracksthat show the array of skills that went into the album. You can figure out what tracks fall under what genre.
Austra's remix album, Sparkle, is finally out (via Domino, (digitally at least, the vinyl is set for release on the 23rd)) and it is good, very good. The album is a collection of edits and reworks off Austra's Feel It Break. Contributions come from some exceptional talents, including SMM favorites Planningtorock and Still Going. NY locals, Still Going, nudged out the rest to picked as our favorite, check it out below.
Swedish disco savant Drop Out Orchestra send out some summer love with his remix of Paul Weller's Starlite. Part of Mr. Weller's latest single release, the remix is blissfully summer. In fact it is so perfectly summer you can picture yourself at summer luau you've been planning. Groovy summer disco. The fine people at Islands Records were great enough to let this one out for free (in player) so get on it while you can.
The Pallers pass along a little teaser of their upcoming album, Sea of Memories. While we are not the biggest fans of posting teaser, this one is particulalrly teasing. The duo hailing from Ahus, Sweden is set to release Sea of Memories (Labrador) on September 27th. Coincidently we will be picking up the album on the same date.
Pallers put in some heavy work to complete the album, searching the world twice over to bring you a well crafted, heart felt, thumping vibe. The two combine their passion for trip hop, ambient sounds, and pop to bring you a new sound, a sound of their own. Check out the fantastically eire teaser below, along with the Pallers uber successful single Come Rain, Come Sunshine .
Porcelain Raft Rocks. After releasing the original 12" for Gone Blind, the Raft is dropping a free remixes EP, courtesy of Acephale. Free EPs are cool enough, but listen to who is on this bad boy: CFCF, Memory Tapes, Babe Rainbow, Pierce and Pierce, and Memoryhouse. That is one stellar set of artists if you ask us. We left our favorite below, however, you should check out the entire EP. Each track on this record is truly unique and fantastic in its own right.
The first single of the Girls' debut album,Father, Son, Holy Ghost, now has a video. The video for Vomit is impersonal yet as intimate as ever. No actual vomit is involved, which is a plus in our eyes. Hedonistic shots of a classic Ford Mustang engulf the first half of the video, we don't see Girls till about 4+ mins into the video. Pretty hot stuff.
Hackman puts in some work on his latest edit to the Crystal Fighters' melodious Plage. Hackman maintains the tracks harmonious roots, but he certainly adds a kick in the pants for you listening pleasure. The Leeds scholar provides you with the perfect edit to start your music. Pick up the track at your local iTunes store. Get on it.
Courtesy of your friends at The FADER, a brand new Air Francetrack that will blow you away.
"After a two year hiatus nearly too long for our hearts to bear, Gothenburg’s Air France have finally released a new track on Sincerely Yours. An interview posted this morning on Air France’s Tumblrsheds a little light: “We are very good at geography and nature, botanical things and so on, but we are completely useless when it comes to music. Joel has no sense of structure at all and Henrik doesn’t know how to start or finish a song…We’ll sit half a day in front of YouTube thinking ‘how the hell did they do that?’ We have many questions for George Harrison that will never be answered.” Their latest, “It Feels Good To Be Around You,” was mixed withStar Slinger, whose choppy, rapid-fire drum machinery shares the same, if not upbeat, then at least chin-up sensibility Air France have always cultivated. No group turns a sample so deftly, so emotionally tapped in to the life-is-a-vacation mindset. This song is a blessing for a Friday, the surest sign the weekend will be sunny and the bike lanes will be clear." [via]
It feels good to listen toIt Feels Good to Be Around You.
Shook gets super nasty on his latest remix this time re-working Fallulah's I Lay My Head. The song plays like a dream with heavy doses of groove and funk accompanying Ms. Fallulah's picturesque voice, as she reminds us all that that shes just too good (for you that is). An interesting pairing that certainly sounds like its working. Keep an ear out for Shook's signature growl, its in there. Grab the free download while you can.
Take a minuet to get cut with Adventure. The Durham natives (yes, they are from North Carolina) pull off an extremely dark, gritty and striking video for Rio that screams counter culture. The video features building ablaze, subtle telekinesis, and some sliced up everything. Striking to say the least.
Earlier this year The Pains of Being Pure at Heartspent some time with Twin Shadowtouring across the US of A. The two link up again as Twin Shadow applies their breathtaking talents to remix PBPH's Heart in Your Heartbreak. You can always count on Twin Shadow to push the envelope, and there are some great sounds in this track (ie at 3.09, that would the sound of the sky opening). She was the heart in your heartbreak, She was the Mrs. in your mistake.
We just caught wind of UK producer Matthew Herbert's superbly excellent remix of Björk's Crystalline. The edit is part of The Crystalline Series (available now), which features a number of remixes of the stellar single. The full album, Biophilla, is set for release on September 27th via Nonesuch.
Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino released a new track song today on the bands site. Although How They Want Me To Be is intended to be a "small taste of what's to come," Ms. Cosentino admits the album is a ways away. The track is absolutely stunningly beautiful, and holds some of the most memorable lyrics we have heard in quite some time. The word heartfelt comes to mind while listening. Cant wait for the Coast's sophomore effort.
Last week we saw Brooklyn local Dave Edwardsremix Mark Morrison's Return of the Mack. Today another classic from '96 gets a rework. The supremely ghostly BALAM ACABslows and synths-out Ghost Town's My Boo. Mr. Acab applies his usual dripping and haunted sounds to the track, while adding in some solid drum kicks and, dare we say, a a bit of dub. Talk about re-inventing a track. Kudos to BALAM ACAB for another job well done.
CFCF, the master of all sounds cool and soporific, dropped in with a new track, and then fellow UNOartist Physical Therapyflipped it with a remix. Cometrue, highlights CFCF's unique sound: soothing, up-beat, and jazzy. Ambient, but not Enya. Physical Therapy sets the track in woodlands with the Deep Forest remix. The edit adds a touch of chirps and drops with a splash of squeaks and strobes to the track. Super cool stuff.
Notables Dark INC. will be performing at Kenny's Castaways on 157 Bleeker at 10:00pm TONIGHT! Definitely join Scotch and Murder Music in support of a group that is ahead of the curve, orchestrating robust jazz like melodies over big rhythmic support. These guys are going somewhere for sure.

There is something about Tycho that is so simple and smooth, with most Scott Hansen's tracks consisting of a simple drum beat and spacey/ambient reverberation.
"Hours" is the new single off of the upcoming November 15 release of Dive. You won't be disappointed.
Similar to the high-hat hitting, cymbal smashing, and bass line driving tunes of the Bloody Beetroots, Jan Driver delivers his contemporary electro with raw and fierce articulation. Driver has been somewhat of a German electronic scene icon since the 90s, contributing and evolving till this day. His hit "Tellyfoam" from WMC 2010 definitely helped distinguish himself as a super talented DJ and with the release of the LP Amatilda on Boysnoize Records, he will be sure to drop jaws again.
Just got our hands on a digital copy of one of the two bonus tracks off Blak Nite's Versionen LP. Mr. Nite's remix ofCivillain's Hostile Per Se, is plenty deep and dark if you dig that sound (as we do). Pick up a copy of the vinyl Verisonen LP for the utmost in listening pleasure (as we did), and you'll get both bonus tracks for frizzle.
