Let us not forget about the rock groups out there that keep true to their inspiration. In this case we're referring to The Horrors 80's Brit pop rock/shoegaze sound. Thank god for the bands out there still producing quality, non-preset driven, instrumental tracks. With the release of Skying, the follow up to 2009's Primary Colours, this British sensation gives you "Moving Further Away".
This weekend we had the pleasure of attending our first MoMA PS1 Warm Up Session, and it was probably the most fun we've had all summer. Just an all out party with great music, great atmosphere, and even better people. The crowd was jamming the whole time to some amazing music from The Miracles Club, Laurel Halo, Lunice, and Gang Gang Dance. An all around stellar vibe. We caught some particularly special images of all you fine folks so please take a minuet to check them all out on our facebook page. Your in there somewhere, we promise.
If you missed this session do not fret. The Warm Up sessions will be going on every weekend for the rest of the summer (only $15), and feature some amazingly talented line ups. Check out the future MoMA PS1 Warm Up Session Line-Ups.
Post-rock synth maestros, The New Division, hit us with their latest single, Opium. The first song released off their upcoming debut album Shadows (Division 87 Records), due out September 27. The track maintains The New Division recent string of exquisite releases. Opium, keeps in line with that deep, dark, 80s sound the band strives for. So, yes you may think your listening to Joy Division for a hot minuet. The single also includes two remixes. This just comes in handy for a bad day.
Pick up the Opium Single directly from The New Division on their bandcamp page.
Keep Shelly in Athens drops in with a remix to UK outfit Tropics' latest single Mouves. KSA definitely adds a darker ambient theme to the track, slowing it down and grinding it out quite a bit. We love both versions, so we left you the official video for Mouves, as well as the free download of the Keep Shelly in Athens Remix. Grab it.
Worlds apart. One from Paris and one from Iowa. Then worlds collide. Boom! you get some seriously smooth and sexy dance tunes from Benoit and Sergio. Taking the classic Daft Punk track Around the World and slowing it down to a sensational dark groove. The duo displays their ability to remix classic tunes, making them fantastically unique. Below you will find the video for their cover of Around the World.
Penguin Prison has been busy this month, releasing a new single Fair Warning, a video for that very single, and then releasing a slew of sweet remixes for it. You can pick up Fair Warning from iTunes, and additional remixes of the track go on sale on August 23rd. In the meantime, however, Disco Bloodbath, Goldroom, and Club Clique have all been kind enough to lend their talents to some fantastic free remixes of the track. Enjoy.
Brooklyn local Dave Edwards drops his smashing debut single today, Dance the Night Away. The title track features a heavy lead that builds into a melodic moment. Then Mr. Edwards lets loose, getting us to act on the track's title, that is, to dance the night away. The b-side features a stellar remix of a 90s favorite, Mark Morrison's Return of the Mack.
Dance the night away will be part of Dave Edward's first full EP, The World is Ours(September), which will feature three original tracks. We will have to chill out with the single for now, but cant wait. Check it out, and download the tracks directly in the player (for free).
New video for the Southern Shores' Bonfire track. There is some very striking imagery in the video directed by Jordan Beard(Escucharemos). Mr. Beard does a stellar job of pairing the Souther Shores sound with the eternal juxtaposition between fire/water, hot/cold, red/blue, and the list could go on forever. This is one of our personal favorite Shores tracks, so it holds a special place to begin with. The combination of such a powerful video with the supreme chillness of the Southern Shores is memorable to say the least.
We all cant forget Luke Million's video for Arnold, which featured everyones favorite Last Action Hero. Well the former keys player for The Swiss is at it again. Sun Splash, the b-side to Arnold, features some heavy synth wizardry. Both tracks are part of Mr. Million's limited edition 7" homage to the Arnold we used to know. Remember DONT GET BIG. GET MASSIVE!
Growing up we loved summer camp, now we love Summer Camp. The duo jumps back into the scene with a track that squarely fits into 80's electro-pop box. Better Off Without You will be on the English outfit's full-length debut album that they produced withSteve Mackey of Pulp. You can help Summer Camp fund the album directly on their site by making a pledge and getting some pretty great stuff in exchange (anything from a pre-release of the new album to an acoustic performance in your living room, and even a home cooked meal). Do it up.
Kitsuné loves releasing awesome club party mixes. Recently they kicked off their Club Nights concept, collecting the best DJ's out there to play ridiculous parties. We would suggest if your are in any of the listed cities, definitely attend the following shows:

The Robot Scientists bring us a new version of a famous classic, ABC's Look of Love. The German duo add a dubby synth feel to one of our personal favorite 80s synth pop favorites. What's that you ask? That's the look of love. Free download in the player, get it while supplies last.
Worlds collide your thinking? Quite the understatement. Pretty Lights presents his modern electro rendition of the Denver track. Remixing one of the all time country classics "Country Road" by John Denver just shows you the boundaries Pretty Lights is willing to cross. Not surprisingly, Pretty Lights drops his huge bass sound two minutes into the song. Listen and you shall see!
Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks has a new sound to it. The Acid Invaders have put a spin on the track, speeding it up quite a bit and throwing in a splash of synth to mix things up. Even though the remix does a bit of re-inventing , we would stay it sticks to the roots of the original. Very big fans of this re-work, take it for a ride. Download the track right off the player for free while your at it.
Flying Lotusdrops a heavy new track on us today. Lullaby starts off with some very dark grind it out sound, yet by the end of the of song we find ourselves locked in to the tune of jewel box. The change from rager to bed time story is barely discernible, which speaks volumes of the immensely talented Mr. Lotus.
Flying Lotus also releases another track, heave (n) mix 2, that we figured we should leave you. A bit more of what we are used to from FL, and less sordid than Lullaby. Lovely nonetheless.
Neon Indian released the details of their upcoming fall tour, starting later this month. While we love Neon Indian, what really grabbed our attention was the acts set to open for the Alan Palomo led outfit.Com Truise and Purity Ringwill be joining along on journey, both exquisite performances. The tour culminates with what we can only expect to be an absolute euphoric experience here in New York at Webster Hall. This is shaping up to be quite the show. Tour dates below.
If all of that wasn't enough for you, Neon Indian also released the second of their three part teaser series in promotion for their sophomore LP Era Extraña, due out September 13th on Static Tongues. Check it out.

Edwin Van Cleefhas put together some superb tracks in his July Mixtape. The track list includes some Scotch & Murder favorites like Hackman's Close and the Yuksek remix of Noah & the Whale's Life is Life. Mr. Van Cleef also takes the time to get dirty with some steel drum beats in Triton. All in all, a very enjoyable mix to get you through that hump-day.

Pretty incredible remix of Ellie Goulding's Lights by RAC. Anytime you can re-package one of the hottest pop-stars into different sound you've got to appreciate the work. Ellie's perfect voice paired with the incredible work we've grown used to RAC putting out, yields massively excellent results. You can pick up the Ellie - Goulding's (RAC Remix) on iTunes.
Dreamy new remix to Digitalism's2 Hearts by 25 year old native Aussie Ren Riz. The lead on the track is particularly impressive, and much improved if you ask us. We are also total suckers for the electric guitar riffs (even if they most likely are coming from a KORG). To describe his sound we'll use Mr. Riz's own words, "spaced out disco, meets hard hitting electro." We couldn't agree more. Overall huge fans of this fresh new take on the Digitalism single, dare we say we like it even better.
Yet again Spike Jonzecrafts another absurdly creative video involving action figure hilarity. This time The Beastie Boys team up with SantiGold to take on a group of assassins. First of all, the song is great. Not a surprise as the BK trio is a consistent bunch. Second, the video compliments the track in the usual Spike Jonze manner. AWESOME! Capiche?
The hits just keep on coming in today, this time we get a brand new track from Moullinex. Modular Jam is the last track to join the Sunflare EP (Discotexas). The hardest track on the EP was recorded in four hours flat, all live synth, as opposed to the other Sunflare tracks, which each took several months to create. Moullinex also passes along word that Modular Jam will be getting its own separate EP with remixes by the C90s, Justin Faust, Worship, and White Girl Lust. We cant wait.
Midnight City is the first track M83 releases off their upcoming double disc album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.' The obsession for the 80s continues with deep drowned out vocals, eccentric synth waves, and a perfectly hidden saxophone or two (as if the album art is'nt supremely 80s enough). You can download Midnight City directly off M83's website for free, could they be more awesome. Rock out hard to this one.
What better way to start your morning than with a little magic. The Magician pumps out the thirteenth installment of his Magic Tape series. Somewhere in this hot mess of greatness is a new Magician remix. Of course there is no track list to be found, a magician never reveals his tricks. Perfectly summer from beginning to end.
The ever mysteriousWalter Sobcekcontinues to produce blissfully dreamlike tracks from the shadows. This time the German/French based duo takes on Bastille's Flaws with particularly dazzling results. The Sobceks re-invent the track, slowing it down and adding a certain celestial feeling to it. As we have come expect from Walter, a very special and touching piece of work.
Masters of selective hip-hip instrumental sampling hip-hop, Vanillarecently released a video for Sure (via Juicy), a track off their up coming "Sunrise Blend" project (our in August).
Vanilla's latest work, High Life, is a 27 track beat-tape inspired by producers the likes of Dilla, Madlib, and Onra. A different sound that you might used to us posting, but we love the absolute soulfulness of the album. It carries that certain old-school hip hop feel that we all love to be reminded of so much. You can download all 27 tracks for free of Vanilla's bandcamp page. Check it out.
For all you Batman fans, here is the moment you've been waiting for. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES TEASER TRAILER......the epic conclusion. This is a complete curve ball on our part, but sorry, it had to go up.
One Washed Out track, Eyes Be Closed, two music videos. Of course one of those videos is for the stellarLovelock remix to the track (bottom). High-speed motorcycles, sweeping streams of confetti, expensive speed boats, and 80s soap opera imagery, it cant get much better.
Today we have the release of Radiohead's second 12 inch of remixes of the King of Limbs tracks "Morning Mr. Magpie" and "Bloom" by Nathan Fake and Mark Pritchard (aka Harmonic 313) respectively. Unfortunately, the RMX's are only available in the UK and the rest of Europe. The 12 inch will be released August 2nd in the USA. These guys offer a pleasant, enigmatic spin on the tracks. Overall......cool.
With all the crazyness going over the past few weekend we never got a chance to give the new BeatauCueEP, Falcon Punch (Kitsune) , a proper listen. Having finally done so, we can tell you to get your ass over to beatport to pick it up. The EP features a killer collaboration with Scotch and Murder favorite Sinichi Osawa. We left you one of our favorites, Close, as a sample, but definitely check out the entire EP.
Very smooth new track, Mambo Marimba, fromSwitzerland based Pharao Black Magic. The perfect sound to play with the top down on a beautiful day like the one we are having. The B-side off their upcoming EP Heliopolis (out August 22), we cant wait to hear the A-Side.
CUZ ME PAIN records just wont stop producing perfectly chilled out tracks that we wont stop loving. This time Visited reaches us with Touch Your Heat, a perfect blend of melodic drum beats and synthetic sounds. Visited, yet another group from the Tokyo bedroom producer scene, definitely captures a futuristic-retro (is that possible you ask, doesn't matter we answer) sound on the track that you will be sure to appreciate. Take it for a ride.
Final DJscontinue to perfectly capture that 80s synth sound. Stellar new track from the Duo from Germany. We cant help but correlate Moonlight Serenade to a thorough 80s car chase ending with the good cop realizing his partner was Mr. Big the whole time (the realization happens right around the 3:38 mark). Serenade that moonlight kids.
Just a friendly reminder that Justin Faust'sGirl Talk EP is set for release tomorrow, July 15th. We've had the pleasure of listening to most of EP and there is some fire stuff on there. Mr. Faust is yet another Discotexas's artists we have fallen in love with. The EP also feature some fine remixes by G.L.O.V.E.SHerr Styler and Bit Funk. Girl Talk truly does cover broad range of sounds. Tracks like Get Down, will have you dancing at your desk, while there are more mellowed out tunes, such as Herr Styler's remix of the title track Girl Talk. Be sure to pick up your copy of Justin Faust's Girl Talk when it drops tomorrow directly from beatport.
We just cam across a fantastic remix to Gappy Ranks' English Money by Trrbo and Cat People. The track is finely layered with a certain heavy, yet, up-lifting feel to it. Trrbo will have your ears ringing for a minuet we promise. Pick up a copy of the entire Gappy Ranks English Money Remix EP over on juno.
Electric Zoo has added even more amazing artists to an already super stellar line up. Felix Cartal, Serge Devant, Alesso, The M Machine,Gramatik, and Umek will now be partying alongside at Randall's island this coming Labor Day weekend. We are particularly excited for Mr. Cartal's live set, which we have heard is an absolute must see, plus we've dying to hear Solarlive for some time now. Get your tickets soon, this one is sure to sell out.
Finally, the banger we've been looking for all day. Gesaffelstein brings us some deep dark noise on his latest track Viol. Part of Gesaffelstein's Conspiracy Part II album, Viol captures that dark sordid synth sound we love some much. Oh, and the video, featuring the Ghostriders, is about as bad-ass as it gets. The two go hand in hand together, you can almost feel/hear the gritty texture on this one. Conspiracy Part II is out July 19th on Turbo Recordings. We will definitely be picking up a copy.
Sander Kleinenbergpasses along a fresh new remix of Closer byFunkagenda. Pretty much a perfect build up of the track from a melodic welcoming sound to a release that will have you shaking that ass without you even knowing it. Download the track for FREE right off Sander's Facebook Page.
Interesting new video from the Cultsfor their melodic single Go Outside (by BoingBoing). You can pre-order the Cults' debut album on their bandcamp page.
