F.O.O.L. Wastechester Mixtape

Accompanying our return from Camb Bisco (photos/video coming soon) was a sense of relief. We say this with no negative conotation whatsoevever as Bisco 11' was a surreal and extreme experience with epic performances left and right. However, we returned home to find FUCK OUR ORDINARY LIVES' Wastechester Mixtape in our inbox. First thought: WHY WERE YOU NOT AT CAMP BISCO!?

Dance Here Now Videos

Finally your Dance Here Now Videos. We only posted our favorites here, but you can check out all the footage over on our You Tube Channel under Uploads.

To wrap up, Dance Here Now was one hell of a time, probably the closest we have felt to Ultra in New York City. From watching an up and comer like James Zabiela mesmerize the crowd with his ipad antics to a proven vet like Benny Bessani completely destroy the crowd, every moment was memorable. Special thanks to all the support staff and media that made the event happen and go so smoothly.

And just like that we are off to Camp Bisco.

Laidback Luke - Turbulence

Laidback Luke - Coming Home (Dub Step Edit)

Benny Benassi - Step Right Up

James Zabiela - Personal Jesus

Fat Boy Slim - In Memory of Johnny Dallash

Three Monkeys Eyewear

We wanted to throw a quick shout out to some friends we met over this past weekend at Dance Here Now. The fine people at Three Monkeys Eyewear were working the show, providing the crowd with high end style at more than fair rates. We picked up a couple pairs for ourselves as well.

TME has designed the perfect sunglasses for music festival ragers, fairly priced (ours were $20) but still thoroughly badass. You can pick up your set directly from Three Monkeys Eyewear online, or if you are in NY at their Spring Street Store (#35) and if your lucky enough you may bump into a eyescream girl on the street.

Yes, The Dance Here Now Videos are STILL Coming, but like REALLY SOON this time!!!

The Avalanches - Since I Left You (Stereolab Remix)

In anticipation of the 10 year anniversary of The AvalanchesSince I Left You Album, the fine folks at Modular People have released a rare Stereolab remix of the title track. This one is packed with quite a few curve balls. The re-issue will feature remixes by Canyons, MF Doom, Black Dice, and many more

In the words of Modular:
The Avalanches watershed debut album, Since I Left You, is about to receive the deluxe 10-Year Anniversary treatment it deserves.
Since the record's global release in 2001, its legacy has continued to grow exponentially. Since I Left You is a record that came seemingly out of nowhere and went on to become not only one of the most influential records of the last decade, but in recent polls conducted by both Pitchfork Media and Australian radio station triple j, as one of the greatest and most beloved albums of all time.
For now to help prepare you to rediscover Since I Left You and experience its timeless trip around a world of wonderous sample-based pop one more time, we have uncovered a rare Stereolab Remix of the album's title track for your enjoyment.

Benny Benassi - Cinema + (Skrillex Remix)

We apologize for the late start to the day, but it was a hell of a weekend and we needed some time recuperate. Dance. Here. Now. was this past weekend and it was quite the show, each performer we witnessed out did themselves. We got to experience two days of the festival, the days Fatboy Slim and Benny Benassi headlined, and had an amazing time, as it seemed everyone else did.

Mr. Benassi's Cinema had the crowed going absolutely nuts, then he dropped the Skrillex remix to completely destroy us all. Picture a perfect blend of the two tracks below performed to a tee in front of a sold out crowd, but even better than what your picturing.

Oh yeh, videos and pictures of Dance Here Now will be up by the end of the day. Keep an eye out.

Skai Nine - Somewhere But Not Here EP

DC native Skai Nine was kind enough to share some tracks off his upcoming EP, Somewhere But Not Here, due out this August. Mr. Nine sticks to his 80s and Synth-Pop influences, but you can definitely  note the growth in his sound. This will be Skai's first digital release so be sure to keep your ears open. As usual we left you our favorite track, Windows Down. Enjoy.

Windows Down by Skai Nine

Lykke Li - Sadness Is A Blessing (D/R/U/G/S Remix)

We love D/R/U/G/S, who brings a new refreshing take on Lykke Li's Sadness Is A Blessing. Very new sound to the track, while still utilizing Li's perfect vocals. Long Live  D/R/U/G/S

Dance Here Now Festival NYC

If you're not participating in the mass exodus out of NYC this July 4th weekend, take a trip to Governors Island for the Dance Here Now Festival beginning Friday, July 1st through Monday, July 4th.

Dance.Here.Now, Pacha New York, Massive Event, Glo Fridays and Cielo have combined forces to to unleash an epic 4 day music festival on Governor's Island. The last festival we attended on this Shutter Islandesque location, Governors Ball Music Festival, was so outrageous and surreal it was impossible not to have a great time. This time around, however, the glitch, electro, house, and trance sound waves will be blasting in spades. So, if you were to ever want an extreme July 4th weekend now is your chance to capitalize. Join us for an intense insomnia filled bash.

Lineup:

Friday July 1: Paul van Dyk exclusive 6-hour set
Saturday July 2: Fatboy Slim along with James Zabiela and Sleepy & Boo
Sunday July 3: Benny Benassi & Laidback Luke
Monday July 4: Victor Calderone in association with Cielo w/ guests Nicole Moudaber & Nicolas Matar

The Glitch Mob - Warrior Concerto

Jesus H Christ this song is epic. A nice divine violin intro with tense synth devouring the background then dropping into a gritty concertoesque death tune. 'Warrior Concerto' is the first single off of the July 12th release of We Can Make The World Stop on the band’s own Glass Air Imprint Records. We love this one and can't wait to see them at Lollapalooza. How about you peruse this nice piece of ace!

Glitch Mob - Warrior Concerto

Justin Faust - Girl Talk EP

French house, nu-disco, and electro seem to be ruling the airwaves (blogwaves). Not surprising when you have Munich's Justin Faust unleashing his fury in remix or original form. Faust has consistently been releasing/remixing the past few years and in July we will have the pleasure to preview his latest Girl Talk EP. The set below is a compilation of snippets and remixes of the EP. Definitely gonna be a good one.

M83's sixth album will be 'EPIC'

Following up on our previous M83 post, we figured we might as well reiterate the words of Anthony Gonzalez, the mastermind behind M83, that the followup to Saturday = Youth will be 'epic'. In fact, the album is done and just needs to be mixed.
Gonzalez: It's a double album. It's mainly about dreams, how every one is different, how you dream differently when you're a kid, a teenager, or an adult. I'm really proud of it. If you're doing a very long album, all the songs need to be different and I think I've done that with this one.
Overall, it's pop — and very epic. Anyone who loved M83 before, they'll love this album even more. People that hated me, they're going to hate this, too.

ROB GENTRY

A few weeks back my budy Benjamin of the Hudson Music ReviewRob Gentry and I (Krychek) got together at Funkadelic studios and jammed out for a few hours. Didn’t really know what to expect but we primarily played a bunch of his songs. This London based fellow laid out some sweet funky, dancy tunes on his Nord for me to riff away. Great time. We were even more blown away by his performance at Fontana's in China Town NYC. This was a solo show however he was literally playing 2 keyboards and 1 guitar at the same time without any flaws. God damn impressive. Stay up to date on his site for more shows. For now, check these out:

Introducing Light Asylum

Thank you Tracasseur. If it wasnt for the Swedish Bloggers/DJs/Badasses we may have never stumbled upon an incredibly awesome duo that probably lives 15 minuets away from our office. That duo of course is Brooklyn based Light Asylum. Composed of Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello, Light Asylum is part of the ever growing Witch House genre. The Two come together to bring you deep booming vocals (female vocals mind you) with perfectly picturesque 80s synths.

LS just released a 4-track EP, In Tension (Mexican Summer), which you should probably pick up directly from the Mexican Summer shop. A full length album is set for release in 2012, so you'll have to hold your self over with the EP for now. We left you our favorite track off the EP, Dark Allies. Get your Witch House on kids.

Auxiliary Tha Masterfader - Disco Dictator (Luke Million Remix)

We finally go our hands on the new Disco Dictator EP (Homebreakin Records) by Auxiliary Tha Masterfader and we can say with confidence it was well worth the wait. The EP dropped just a few days ago (June 27th) and we cant stop bumping it.

Below is our favorite remix by Luke Million, who we already told you is super awesome. Trust us, let Tha Masterfader be your Disco Dictator.

Pick up your copy of the Disco Dictator EP over at Juno.

Catching up with Dollface Devereaux

We had the chance to catch up with Dollface Devereaux the other night, and the man has been busy. Mr. Devereaux recently remixed Retro Grade's Mindfighter, and has also put together quite the playlist featuring some SMM favorites including Clasixx, Mumbai Science and Friendly Fires. Dollface also passes along a new edit to Battlehis last single, and the song we consider our anthem here at the Scotch and Murder offices. Told you he's been busy.

Hussle Club - Night Society (Designer Drugs Remix)

If you havent noticed we tend to keep what we call our Banger tracks in our back pocket till we approach the weekend. However, today's Designer Drugs remix of Hussle Club's Night Society needs to be listened to as soon as possible. The tracks bit more tame than what were used to from the masters of the remix (and other things), but still very hardcore. If we could only blast this in a packed house at maximum value, what a scene it would be. Bang your hearts out.

Electric Zoo Now Selling Single Day Passes!!

Just in case you missed the big news: Electric Zoo is now selling single day passes! The line up is absolutely stellar, ranging from up and comers to established kings of genres. We would sit here and list our favorites, but then we would entail typing up more or less the entire line up. Grab your single day tickets (or be a true rock star and grab the full 3-day pass) while they last, this is going to be a show for the books.

Mr. Ozio - STEAK (Video)

On an otherwise slow day we thought we'd pass along a bit of music related movie history to our beloved followers. As most of you likely know, French DJ  Mr. Ozio has dabbled in film from time to time, and we recently stumbled across his 2007 release Steak about two high-school "losers" who desperately want to join the "cool gang" of perfectionists, the CHIVERS. The movie truly is a love it or hate it sort of film. This is our favorite scene and we figured we give you something to laugh about.

amoraboy - Just like a Heaven Redemption Song (Bob Marley vs The Cure) (Video)

As we consider ourselves a bit of purists, we tend not to be the biggest fans of mash-ups. However, as with every rule, there are always certain exceptions. Today we came across this little twister of Bob Marley and The Cure by Amoraboy. Although skeptical at first, the two sounds some how do blend with one another quite well. Give it a listen and pass along your thoughts.

M83 - New Album Teaser

Electric dream pop masters M83 pass along a teaser for their upcoming album. It seems their obsession with the 80s has shifted to one for everything natural. We cant wait.

The Shoes - Wastin' Time (Video)

Just in case you missed The Shoes new video for Wastin' Time. Beautiful vocals, dreamy acoustics.

Southern Shores - Night is Young

We can describe the new Southern Shores  EP, Atlantic, in two words, So Blissful. A true summer anthem, Atlantic captures that unique late 80s sound, meshing it with a modern day chillwave feel. The EP is set for release from experimental (and fabulous) label Cascine on July 12, but it already has our hearts throbbing. We left a little taste below for your enjoyment, try it on.

Southern Shores - 04 Night Is Young by CASCINE

Radiohead - Staircase

You will find "Staircase" off of Radiohead's upcoming From the Basement  session. RADIOHEAD. Thats all we have to say.

The Scotch and Murder Channel

Hosta ft Jodi & Merdz - End of the World

Here is a track somewhat off the Scotch and Murder beaten path, however, it must  be posted out of respect to our one year stint in Scotland. We had the chance to catch Hosta at a warehouse rave in Edinburgh and he tore it up. Ah the nights of fine scotch and dubstep haha! Jodi and Hosta, both UK natives, have teamed up to release 5AM. For now, open your ears to this fine tune:

Boerd - Shove it up your Ears

The Swedish label Comorbid Records does not stop pumping out progressive electro. The genre just seems to keep evolving with every release from the Nordic region. You'll understand once you listen to boerd's upcoming release of Shove It Up Your Ears on July 12, featuring remixes of Owl Vision, Comic Strips and Vengeance. Sample the teaser below.

boerd - Shove It Up Your Ears (Teaser) by Comorbid Records

George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair (Zimmer Edit)

We have said it before, and well say it again: Zimmer is the future. With each release the man simply elevates his style, and perfects what will eventually become his own genre.  This time Zimmer takes us back to that 70s funk/disco with his latest edit of George Duke's Brazilian Love Affair. Very groovy feel good music, we love it. And yup, Zimmer is another DISCOTEXAS artist, the love grows.

George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair (Zimmer Edit) by Zimmer

RAC - Sega vs Nintendo 2

The artist collective that is RAC had tremendous success with their first Nintendo vs. Sega album, so a second in the series made perfect sense. The whole Nintendo vs Sega II album is awesome, especially the remixes of of Sonic 2's Chemical Plant Zone and Contra's Waterfall/Jungle (so gangster to be writing that).

Admittedly, we are suckers for anything that is such a direct link to our youth, but this thing is pure hot fire. If we didnt know any better bet, we would think that the album is a set of original tracks. What is particularly special about the EP is that the songs sound new fresh and clean, but still maintain that original MIDI-esque sound.

Nintendo Vs Sega 2 by RAC

Shindu - Happy House

Shindu is one of those up and coming groups that you can't just help but root for. They carry themselves with an extremely lovable air, and the video for Happy House only furthers that sentiment. Up beat, but not in any way corny. We just cant tell you how happy Happy House makes us. Pick up your copy of Happy House.

Lazydisco - More Tigers (Astrolabe Remix)

Lazy Disco, aka Fred Oliveria, seems to selected a alias that perfectly describes his sound. Definitely disco, but a far more chilled out anthem than what were used to hearing from the genre. The man has been painstakingly putting out remixes to his debut EP, More Tigers, a name we simply cant get enough of. This one is our personal favorite and we think you will enjoy it as well. You can pick up the entire More Tigers EP at Juno or Beatport.

On a side note, Lisbon based DISCOTEXAS is quickly becoming our favorite label, more from them later today.

Washed Out's Within and Without in its Entirety

The fine folks at npr have got their hands on Washed Out's Within and Without and have it available for the rest of us to stream. You can stream the entire album over at the npr media player. Happy Listening.

Björk - Crystalline

Over the weekend Björk released the first track, Crystallineoff of her highly anticipated Biophilia album.  As if we need to hype the artists with truly the most beautiful voice out right now (or possibly ever).  The song starts out with an incredible calm feel and ultimately evolves into a bass thumping rager, quite the unique sequence of sounds. Simply magnificent.

Scotch and Murder The Playlists

As per your request, your weekly playlist. Kick ass this weekend kids.

Something A La Mode - Versailles No Bara (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Musical genius Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo of the Bloody Beetroots has done it again, this time remixing Something A La Mode's Versailles No Bara. Mr. Rifo continues to produce the most unique sounds out, and still manages to keep your heart pumping throughout the the track. Such talent never seemed so effortless. Cant wait to see the entire Death Crew 77 at Lollapalooza

Something A La Mode - Versailles No Bara (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Clams Casino - Natural (Video)

Less than a week away from dropping their debut EP, Rainforest, Clams Casino has released a video for quite possible the most relaxing track we've heard in a minuet, Natural. The video features content from Agguirre, The Wrath of God, which captures the track rather perfectly. We cant wait for the EP, but this will have to hold us over.

VENGEANCE - Nebulas (Owl Vision Remix)

Owl Vision is back baby! We previously posted the badass video for Deathstar and today he comes out with the remix of "Nebulas" by Vengeance on Beatport and iTunes. Check it out.
