Hussle Club - Night Society (Designer Drugs Remix)

If you havent noticed we tend to keep what we call our Banger tracks in our back pocket till we approach the weekend. However, today's Designer Drugs remix of Hussle Club's Night Society needs to be listened to as soon as possible. The tracks bit more tame than what were used to from the masters of the remix (and other things), but still very hardcore. If we could only blast this in a packed house at maximum value, what a scene it would be. Bang your hearts out.

Electric Zoo Now Selling Single Day Passes!!

Just in case you missed the big news: Electric Zoo is now selling single day passes! The line up is absolutely stellar, ranging from up and comers to established kings of genres. We would sit here and list our favorites, but then we would entail typing up more or less the entire line up. Grab your single day tickets (or be a true rock star and grab the full 3-day pass) while they last, this is going to be a show for the books.

Mr. Ozio - STEAK (Video)

On an otherwise slow day we thought we'd pass along a bit of music related movie history to our beloved followers. As most of you likely know, French DJ  Mr. Ozio has dabbled in film from time to time, and we recently stumbled across his 2007 release Steak about two high-school "losers" who desperately want to join the "cool gang" of perfectionists, the CHIVERS. The movie truly is a love it or hate it sort of film. This is our favorite scene and we figured we give you something to laugh about.

amoraboy - Just like a Heaven Redemption Song (Bob Marley vs The Cure) (Video)

As we consider ourselves a bit of purists, we tend not to be the biggest fans of mash-ups. However, as with every rule, there are always certain exceptions. Today we came across this little twister of Bob Marley and The Cure by Amoraboy. Although skeptical at first, the two sounds some how do blend with one another quite well. Give it a listen and pass along your thoughts.

M83 - New Album Teaser

Electric dream pop masters M83 pass along a teaser for their upcoming album. It seems their obsession with the 80s has shifted to one for everything natural. We cant wait.

The Shoes - Wastin' Time (Video)

Just in case you missed The Shoes new video for Wastin' Time. Beautiful vocals, dreamy acoustics.

Southern Shores - Night is Young

We can describe the new Southern Shores  EP, Atlantic, in two words, So Blissful. A true summer anthem, Atlantic captures that unique late 80s sound, meshing it with a modern day chillwave feel. The EP is set for release from experimental (and fabulous) label Cascine on July 12, but it already has our hearts throbbing. We left a little taste below for your enjoyment, try it on.

Southern Shores - 04 Night Is Young by CASCINE

Radiohead - Staircase

You will find "Staircase" off of Radiohead's upcoming From the Basement  session. RADIOHEAD. Thats all we have to say.

The Scotch and Murder Channel

Hosta ft Jodi & Merdz - End of the World

Here is a track somewhat off the Scotch and Murder beaten path, however, it must  be posted out of respect to our one year stint in Scotland. We had the chance to catch Hosta at a warehouse rave in Edinburgh and he tore it up. Ah the nights of fine scotch and dubstep haha! Jodi and Hosta, both UK natives, have teamed up to release 5AM. For now, open your ears to this fine tune:

Boerd - Shove it up your Ears

The Swedish label Comorbid Records does not stop pumping out progressive electro. The genre just seems to keep evolving with every release from the Nordic region. You'll understand once you listen to boerd's upcoming release of Shove It Up Your Ears on July 12, featuring remixes of Owl Vision, Comic Strips and Vengeance. Sample the teaser below.

George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair (Zimmer Edit)

We have said it before, and well say it again: Zimmer is the future. With each release the man simply elevates his style, and perfects what will eventually become his own genre.  This time Zimmer takes us back to that 70s funk/disco with his latest edit of George Duke's Brazilian Love Affair. Very groovy feel good music, we love it. And yup, Zimmer is another DISCOTEXAS artist, the love grows.

RAC - Sega vs Nintendo 2

The artist collective that is RAC had tremendous success with their first Nintendo vs. Sega album, so a second in the series made perfect sense. The whole Nintendo vs Sega II album is awesome, especially the remixes of of Sonic 2's Chemical Plant Zone and Contra's Waterfall/Jungle (so gangster to be writing that).

Admittedly, we are suckers for anything that is such a direct link to our youth, but this thing is pure hot fire. If we didnt know any better bet, we would think that the album is a set of original tracks. What is particularly special about the EP is that the songs sound new fresh and clean, but still maintain that original MIDI-esque sound.

Shindu - Happy House

Shindu is one of those up and coming groups that you can't just help but root for. They carry themselves with an extremely lovable air, and the video for Happy House only furthers that sentiment. Up beat, but not in any way corny. We just cant tell you how happy Happy House makes us. Pick up your copy of Happy House.

Lazydisco - More Tigers (Astrolabe Remix)

Lazy Disco, aka Fred Oliveria, seems to selected a alias that perfectly describes his sound. Definitely disco, but a far more chilled out anthem than what were used to hearing from the genre. The man has been painstakingly putting out remixes to his debut EP, More Tigers, a name we simply cant get enough of. This one is our personal favorite and we think you will enjoy it as well. You can pick up the entire More Tigers EP at Juno or Beatport.

On a side note, Lisbon based DISCOTEXAS is quickly becoming our favorite label, more from them later today.

Washed Out's Within and Without in its Entirety

The fine folks at npr have got their hands on Washed Out's Within and Without and have it available for the rest of us to stream. You can stream the entire album over at the npr media player. Happy Listening.

Björk - Crystalline

Over the weekend Björk released the first track, Crystallineoff of her highly anticipated Biophilia album.  As if we need to hype the artists with truly the most beautiful voice out right now (or possibly ever).  The song starts out with an incredible calm feel and ultimately evolves into a bass thumping rager, quite the unique sequence of sounds. Simply magnificent.

Scotch and Murder The Playlists

As per your request, your weekly playlist. Kick ass this weekend kids.

Something A La Mode - Versailles No Bara (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Musical genius Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo of the Bloody Beetroots has done it again, this time remixing Something A La Mode's Versailles No Bara. Mr. Rifo continues to produce the most unique sounds out, and still manages to keep your heart pumping throughout the the track. Such talent never seemed so effortless. Cant wait to see the entire Death Crew 77 at Lollapalooza

Something A La Mode - Versailles No Bara (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Clams Casino - Natural (Video)

Less than a week away from dropping their debut EP, Rainforest, Clams Casino has released a video for quite possible the most relaxing track we've heard in a minuet, Natural. The video features content from Agguirre, The Wrath of God, which captures the track rather perfectly. We cant wait for the EP, but this will have to hold us over.

VENGEANCE - Nebulas (Owl Vision Remix)

Owl Vision is back baby! We previously posted the badass video for Deathstar and today he comes out with the remix of "Nebulas" by Vengeance on Beatport and iTunes. Check it out.

VENGEANCE - Nebulas (Owl Vision Remix) by Owl Vision

The Concretes - My Ways (Video)

Striking new video by Swedish group The Conceretes for their latest single My Ways. The chorus is probably a bit more poppy than your used to hearing here on SMM, but between the rest of the track and the video we think you'll like it. Hats off to Brilliantly Different for their work on the video. Good Stuff.

CUZ ME PAIN DJ's Mixtape

Our friends over at CUZ ME PAIN Records (Tokyo, Japan) passed along this very trippy and groovy mixtape that is sure to bend your mind (in a good way). The mixtape does a good job of capturing that CMP sound with a splash of that summer vibe we all love so much. Very unique stuff on this one, at one point Fred Flintstone takes on the locals, for real. Give it a listen, you will be sure to appreciate it.

The Joy Formidable - A Heavy Abacus (Video)

The Joy Formidable released a video for  A Heavy Abacus to promote the release of their album The Big Roar. If you haven't had the pleasure to listen to The Formidable yet, please please please, we implore you to get this album (only $10) and listen to it from start to finish, it is an absolute gem. We cannot explain you how refreshing it is to hear such talented artists who play so loudly and still sound perfect. The video merely skims the surface on how good this band truly is. Enjoy.

Washed Out - Eyes Be Closed (Video)

Here at Scotch and Murder we are always suckers for a good unofficial video, especially when its for one our favorite songs. Eric Dernick uses his talents to mash sensual 70's erotica with manual labor, all to the tune of Washed Out's Eyes be Closed

Luke Million - Arnold (Video)

You may remember Luke Million as the hectic keys player and synth wizard from The Swiss. Well the native Aussie is at it again, set to release a 7"on July 12th (Future Classic),which features a tribute to everyones favorite action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger. We could not help but love the video for Arnold, but Mr. Million supports the lovable short with those perfected synth waves and a very special nu-disco feel. He also sends along the reminder: DON'T GET BIG, GET MASSIVE.

Thomas Collins EP

Local chillwave up and comers Thomas Collins  dropped their debut self titled EP earlier today. The EP is made up of six thoroughly chilled out tracks that you will need for summer 2011, including a very unique cover of Will Smith's Miami. The duo was kind enough to share a free copy with all of us, which you can download at their bandcamp or here. We left a sample of our favorite track for you, very chill stuff.

CREEP - You (Planningtorock Remix)

Planningtorock applies her wide array of talents to CREEP's You. The remix features a very deep, dark, and driving bass from the start, and applies the same effect to transform Nina Sky's voice to that of a demon. We'd think you would agree that the impact is instant on this one. An interesting track to say the least, we love it. You want it, quite lying, come try it, you cant fight it.

Paul Freegard - Smadge my Nadge

Our UK buddy Paul Freegard, a UK-based musician and producer, has just released the track "Smadge my Nadge" along with a tribal remix. This fellow has been collaborating/producing for a quite a while, most notably with Martin Gore on Depeche Mode's Exciter album (one of our favorites) as well as on the remixes. Paul keeps his roots electronically and you clearly recognize the Depeche Mode like association in the following tracks. Awesome prolonged progressive tunes. Definitely check them out as they are most likely to get signed.

Flight Facilities - Crave You (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix)

Montreal production duo Adventure Club put some dub into the Flight Facilities' Crave You. That wobbly deep dub sound provides quite the perfect juxtaposition to Giselle Rosselli's sweet and pure vocals. Adventure Club was even kind enough to give everyone a free download of the track (directly in the player). Womp your heart out.

Elizabeth Rose + RÜFÜS - Stars Ago

RÜFÜS, the Aussie trio snow balling through the scene, accompanies the Sydney singer Elizabeth Rose on the track "Stars Ago". Defnitely a poppy dance beat however there is some kind of gravitational pull Rose and Rufus exert with their vocals. Watch the edited Fellini 8 1/2 with "Stars Ago".

Breakbot ft. Ruckazoid – Fantasy (Video)

Just in case you missed Breakbot's video for his latest single Fantasy. Totally dreamy.

After blessing us all a little taste of his new album with Eyes Be Closed, Washed Out provides a second sampler  with Amor Fati. As usual, Washed Out captures that perfect sound of a blissful summer. Keep an ear out for Within and Without, which drops July 12th (Sub Pop!).

Governors Ball Music Festival Photos

Finally got our Governors Ball photos up, click on the links below to go to the artist of your liking. The festival was an absolute hit, each performance outdoing the one before it. Our personal favorite was the Empire of the Sun's three act performance which concluded with lead singer Luke Steele absolutely smashing his guitar to bits. And Yes, we did see Pretty Lights in all of his glory, but our camera ran out of juice. Anyhow, we hope you had as much fun as we did, and enjoy the pictures.

Nightriders - Get Hooked (GRUM remix)

GRUM has surfaced again with a brand new remix to Nighriders' Get Hooked. Sticking to his classic style of slowly building up the track and then sending it off into a spiral of ravey beats. You can pick up the track along with the rest of the EP over at Juno. Get Hooked.

Pretty Lights' Radiohead vs. Nirvana vs. NIN

Over the weekend we attended The Governors Ball Music Festival where  phenomenal acts performing one after another accompanied by amazing weather gave somewhat of a refuge for all music lovers on Governors Island NYC. Before we post our coverage on the festival, we would like to emphasize that YOU MUST LISTEN to Pretty Lights' mashup of Radiohead's "Everything in its Right Place" over Nirvana's "All Apologies" over NIN's "Closer." In addition to being mesmerized by Pretty Lights' extraordinary illuminating production, this track (with Cobain's eerie lyrics layered over Radiohead's and NIN's wondefully fitting synth progression) thunders deep bass through you bones. Listen now.

BLONDES and Miracles Club Tonight at Cameo Gallery

Join us tonight as BLONDES and the Miracles Club, take the stage at Cameo Gallery as part of the Let's Play House's contribution to the Northside Festival. You already know how much we love the Miracles Club, so heres a little bit on BLONDES. Brooklyn duo Zach Steinman and Sam Haar, preform their music as semi-improvisational structures stemming from the interaction of their hands and ears with their physical electronic instruments. Hypnotic minimal chords pulse in dense layered textures over slowed down house rhythms, rising and falling in waves of moments. Ladies and gentlemen we are in for quite the show.

Scotch and Murder the Playlists

Your weekly playlist. Enjoy.

Summer Camp - Nobody Knows You

New splendid track from Summer Camp, Nobody Knows You. The duo gets together to bring us  a fine blend piercing vocals, deep drums, and sordid synth. Not sure if this will be part of Summer Camp's next production, nevertheless its a fine track that you should grab.

Friendly Fires - Hawaiian Air (Video)

Take a ride on Hawaiian Air with the Friendly Fires.

Dark Inc. play The Way Station, Brooklyn

Please go check out Dark INC.'s show at The Way Station in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn TONIGHT. My buddy Fernando Arruda will be ripping away on Jazz sax supporting a sweet Massive Attack like act with real robust vocals (Iris Freeform) and tight ass drums (Ft. Wes Reid). I strongly suggest you be there and that you check out the track "Ethereal Projection." Simply awesome!

Bio:
Dark Inc. was born in Bologna (IT) in the year 2003 from the collaboration between Kevin Follet (KF) and Irene Salis (Iris FreeForm) with a ambitious project: a fusion of classic, jazz and electronic experimental music. Obscure, orchestral, abrhasive, emotional and sound scape probing, it recalls a free fall inside the most introvert human nature, giving it a place in sound. In 2010 saxophonist Fernando Arruda joins the Dark INC Project.
