Elizabeth Rose + RÜFÜS - Stars Ago

RÜFÜS, the Aussie trio snow balling through the scene, accompanies the Sydney singer Elizabeth Rose on the track "Stars Ago". Defnitely a poppy dance beat however there is some kind of gravitational pull Rose and Rufus exert with their vocals. Watch the edited Fellini 8 1/2 with "Stars Ago".

Breakbot ft. Ruckazoid – Fantasy (Video)

Just in case you missed Breakbot's video for his latest single Fantasy. Totally dreamy.

Washed Out - Amor Fati

After blessing us all a little taste of his new album with Eyes Be Closed, Washed Out provides a second sampler  with Amor Fati. As usual, Washed Out captures that perfect sound of a blissful summer. Keep an ear out for Within and Without, which drops July 12th (Sub Pop!).

This Is Head – De Trop (Video)

Swedish Kraut disco outfit This Is Head recently dropped a video for their single De Trop (Adrian Recordings), which is the first new track released from the band since their acclaimed debut album, 0001 The video definitely has a strange man in a strange place feel to it, while the song carries a perfect melody and beat. The video was produced shot and shot by Beirut.  Order the vinyl here or download the entire EP.

Governors Ball Music Festival Photos

Finally got our Governors Ball photos up, click on the links below to go to the artist of your liking. The festival was an absolute hit, each performance outdoing the one before it. Our personal favorite was the Empire of the Sun's three act performance which concluded with lead singer Luke Steele absolutely smashing his guitar to bits. And Yes, we did see Pretty Lights in all of his glory, but our camera ran out of juice. Anyhow, we hope you had as much fun as we did, and enjoy the pictures.

Stars - We Don't Want Your Body (Video)

Nightriders - Get Hooked (GRUM remix)

GRUM has surfaced again with a brand new remix to Nighriders' Get Hooked. Sticking to his classic style of slowly building up the track and then sending it off into a spiral of ravey beats. You can pick up the track along with the rest of the EP over at Juno. Get Hooked.

Pretty Lights' Radiohead vs. Nirvana vs. NIN

Over the weekend we attended The Governors Ball Music Festival where  phenomenal acts performing one after another accompanied by amazing weather gave somewhat of a refuge for all music lovers on Governors Island NYC. Before we post our coverage on the festival, we would like to emphasize that YOU MUST LISTEN to Pretty Lights' mashup of Radiohead's "Everything in its Right Place" over Nirvana's "All Apologies" over NIN's "Closer." In addition to being mesmerized by Pretty Lights' extraordinary illuminating production, this track (with Cobain's eerie lyrics layered over Radiohead's and NIN's wondefully fitting synth progression) thunders deep bass through you bones. Listen now.

BLONDES and Miracles Club Tonight at Cameo Gallery

Join us tonight as BLONDES and the Miracles Club, take the stage at Cameo Gallery as part of the Let's Play House's contribution to the Northside Festival. You already know how much we love the Miracles Club, so heres a little bit on BLONDES. Brooklyn duo Zach Steinman and Sam Haar, preform their music as semi-improvisational structures stemming from the interaction of their hands and ears with their physical electronic instruments. Hypnotic minimal chords pulse in dense layered textures over slowed down house rhythms, rising and falling in waves of moments. Ladies and gentlemen we are in for quite the show.

Scotch and Murder the Playlists

Your weekly playlist. Enjoy.

Summer Camp - Nobody Knows You

New splendid track from Summer Camp, Nobody Knows You. The duo gets together to bring us  a fine blend piercing vocals, deep drums, and sordid synth. Not sure if this will be part of Summer Camp's next production, nevertheless its a fine track that you should grab.

Friendly Fires - Hawaiian Air (Video)

Take a ride on Hawaiian Air with the Friendly Fires.

Gabe Sulkes wins 2 Tickets to The Governors Ball Music Festival

Congratulations to GABE SULKES! You are the winner of the Scotch and Murder Video Submission Contest and will be going to The Governors Ball Music Festival! Gabe submitted Aspirin's video for the track "Cutter" done by Alex Harrison. This really is a mesmerizing piece equipped with children's toys and gadgets moving in syncopation to the track. A badass track! Thank you so much for grabbing our attention with this video. We hope you enjoy the show!

Keep posted for more Scotch and Murder Giveaways

Dark Inc. play The Way Station, Brooklyn

Please go check out Dark INC.'s show at The Way Station in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn TONIGHT. My buddy Fernando Arruda will be ripping away on Jazz sax supporting a sweet Massive Attack like act with real robust vocals (Iris Freeform) and tight ass drums (Ft. Wes Reid). I strongly suggest you be there and that you check out the track "Ethereal Projection." Simply awesome!

Bio:
Dark Inc. was born in Bologna (IT) in the year 2003 from the collaboration between Kevin Follet (KF) and Irene Salis (Iris FreeForm) with a ambitious project: a fusion of classic, jazz and electronic experimental music. Obscure, orchestral, abrhasive, emotional and sound scape probing, it recalls a free fall inside the most introvert human nature, giving it a place in sound. In 2010 saxophonist Fernando Arruda joins the Dark INC Project.

Konekta - Sailing By (Mochipet Remix)

Things have been getting a little too chill here on Scotch and Murder, but thanks to Mochipet thats about to change. His remix of Konekta's Sailing By (coming soon on Mallabel) is sure to blow your socks off. We are working on getting a downloadable track, but we couldnt wait any longer to let you have a listen.

Massive Attack - Girl I Love You (Flying Lotus Vibeangel Mix)

Flying Lotus has been a busy man. This past week hes uploaded remixes to StereolabBjörk , and this fine little retouch of Massive Attack's Girl I Love You.

Massive Attack - Girl I Love You (Flying Lotus Vibeangel Mix)

Com Truise - Galactic Melt

So Com Truise's Galactic Melt dropped yesterday, and being the big fans we are of his work, we wanted to give it a good hard listen or two before reporting on in it. After doing so, the consensus is that Mr. Truise is supremely talented and has definitely etched out a corner for himself in the computer waves. As one of our writers put it "Mentally,  he is in a constantly moving 80s Corvette," we're not sure that makes much sense, but it sounds right.

We left you our favorite track on the album Ether Drift (awesome name no?), but in all honesty every track is amazing. Do your self a favor and pick up the digital copy over at bandcamp, or you can be super cool (like us) and pick up the vinyl directly from Ghostly. Either way, you are sure to enjoy a trip through the synth-wave super highway created by Com Truise

Metronomy - The Bay (Video) + Bonus Erol Alkan Rework

Metronomy released their first a video for their single off The English Riviera album, The Bay. The video has everything you need for a perfect summer: perfect blue water, towering palm trees, expensive boats, white sand beaches, super cool convertibles, and of course an endless sea of legs. We threw in a bonus rework by the great Erol Alkan that we cant stop blasting in the office. It Feels Soooooooooooo Goood.  Yes it does.

Chad Valley - Now That I'm Real (How Does It Feel) (Video)

Just in case you missed the video for Chad Valley's fantastic Now That I'm Real (How Does it Feel) off Equatorial Ultravox EP due out June 20th (Cascine).

Washed Out - Eyes Be Closed (Lovelock Remix)

Lovelock put in some work on his remix of Washed Out's Eyes Be Closed. We've heard a number of Washed Our remixes, but this is the first one we truly love. A very booming bass, yet the track retains all of the dreamy chillness that defines Washed Out. We got our hands on a decent version to hold you over till the track drops as part of the Eyes Be Closed 12" set for release on July 5th on colored vinyl (Weird World)

Sander Kleinenberg's 5K Release

We hope Whitney our previous Scotch and Murder Newsletter contest winner enjoyed the show at Pacha NYC last Friday. We now bring you Sander's new album 5K. Sit down, relax, listen. ENJOY!

Lykke Li - Little Bit (Autoerotique Remix)

Autoerotique offers an alternative take on Lykke Li's "Little Bit". While Maintaining the soft vocals of the Swedish pop star as well as the staccato like guitar backbone, the 2009 hit transforms into an edgier dance tune with the help of the Toronto based DJ's.

The young singer/songwriter will hit Central Park's Summerstage in NYC on August 1 in support of her second album, Wounded Rhymes, released this March.

Our friends at Tammany Hall will be hosting Autoerotique on June 20th in the Lower East Side. We'll def be at both of these shows as both are sure to be great.

TV on the RADIO - Will Do (Switch Remix)

We apologize for not posting this before with the release of Nine Types of Light by TV on the Radio. Not sure how this one slipped by but this remix of "Will Do" by the UK-based DJ and record producer Switch is really, reallly, REALLY good. Opening with a heavenly delayed piano jingle, Switch then drops this motherfucker way down with a fitting slow driving beat.

White Lies - Holy Ghost (Video)

The White Lies released a new music video for Holy Ghost (our favorite off the Ritual album), very epic stuff. Its also another video directed CANADA who seem to be pumping out the most creative and mind bending work right now. You may remember them from the Scissor Sisters'  Invisible Light, and more recently, the Battles video for Ice Cream.

WU LYF - Dirt

Below we have World Unite/Lucifer's, aka WU LYF, video for "Dirt", a great track off their anticipated release of Go Tell Fire to the Mountain on Jun 13th. With heavy reverb drums and raspy vocals WU LYF provide an anarchist's anthem with riot visuals and subliminal like lyrics flashing colorfully.

Special Generation – Love Me Just For Me (DaKOTA Remix)

Via our friends at Handsome, DaKOTA just released a remix of Special Generation's early 90s hit Love Me Just for Me. As described by Handsome: The song gets a welcome update with spacey synths and booming back-beat that sounds like the lovechild of Com Truise, Anoraak and Boyz II Men. Spot on assessment if you ask us.

Special Generation – Love Me Just For Me (DaKOTA REMIX)

Hackman - Close

Here at Scotch and Murder we pride ourselves on bringing our listeners truly unique and selective sounds, the title track off Hackman's Close EP (Greco-Romanmeets both requirements. A big tune in every sense of the phrase, we havent heard a track like this in a minuet. Close officially drops in the US on June 26, pre-order a copy over at Juno. Download Hackman - Close

Locussolus - Throwdown (Com Truise Remix)

Another impeccable  remix from our resident favorite Com Truise. This time Mr. Truise applies his wave bending synths to Locussolus's Throwdown with superb results. Do not forget to pick up a copy of Com Truise Debut album Galactic Melt (Ghostly International), due out June 14th, pre-order a copy now at bandcamp.

Owl Vision will release his track on June 14 on iTunes, Juno and Beatport. Currently you can check out the new video produced by Punx Sthlm.

Balam Acab – Oh, Why

Supremely gohsly track from Balam Acab off his upcoming album Wander / Wonder due out August 29 (Tri Angle). We'll let Mr. Acab describe this one for you:

“It’s an open ended album, and I think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. It’s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a Bach Cello Suite, I see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. It’s also an album that should be listened to loudly.”

Balam Acab – Oh, Why

PURPLE EP

Peter & The Magician - La Fiorentina

Who knew that magicians make magic? The Magician continues to ride those 80s synth sounds to success. If you have a white Corvette laying around you should be driving it down a mountain side to this song.

Blood Diamonds - Grins

Bermuda Bonnie – Evil

As we noted in an earlier postBermuda Bonnie is releasing a series of songs leading up to the release of their second album out later this summer. Next up is Evil, a bit darker than their first release Kohl's, yet still perfectly groovy for any beach party.

Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross)

If you happened to see X-Men: First Class this weekend you would have seen the trailer for David Fincher's version of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. We're not in the business of commentating on trailers but this one was defnitely noteworthy. Trent Reznor and Karen O team up to reinvent Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song, thumping along with the chopped up trailer. Once again Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross  join forces to score Fincher's movie with, most likely, another dark and robust soundtrack. Check out the sample.

Figure - The Monsters Revenge

Now Victor Frankenstein, you die. Figure creates his own monster in a tribute to the destruction of Victor Frankenstein. The Monsters Revenge is a follow up on the Figure and Kanji Kinetic collaboration, Frankenstein. Both tracks are hardcore instant bangers, but we always prefer the taste of revenge here at Scotch and Murder. This monstrosity must be destroyed.

Johan Agebjörn & Queen Of Hearts - The Last Day Of Summer (Le Prix Remix)

It seems as if every time Johan Agebjörn and Le Prix remix one another the song is sent into an 80s space odyssey. Well, here is another one to surf in space to.

Johan Agebjörn & Ercola feat. Queen Of Hearts - The Last Day Of Summer (Le Prix Remix) by Johan Agebjörn
